The tour starts early with the pick up at your hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned minibus.
The first stop is at the famous Quinta de Covela, on the right bank of Douro River with panoramic views over the river.
The Covela estate covers 49 hectares, of which 18 are planted with vineyards that also mark the frontier between two typical villages of the lower Douro being both recognized for their natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.This wine estate was once owned by Manoel de Oliveira, the most renowned portuguese film producer and the elderly one in the industry performing his dutties.
Drive to Tormes among terraces, generous vineyards (whose juice is known worldwide), tall pines and modern houses and arrive into The E a de Queiroz Foundation.Visit the E a de Queiroz Foundation, a House-Museum where the known writer found a source of inspiration for one of his finest novels, “The City and The Mountains”.
E a de Queiroz is one of the most renowned Portuguese writers from the 19th century and it is still very importante for portuguese culture.
Lunch is also included in the restaurant in between the Foundation.
Enjoy a delicious traditional meal, with an interesting story behind it! The first meal E a Queiroz tried in these lands!In the afternoon we will visit the second wine estate (Quinta da Aveleda or Quinta da Lixa, depending on availability). Both options are equally special, two of the largest producers and exporters of Green Wine ("Vinho Verde").
Here you can see outstanding vineyards and taste some wine from the experts in the production of this wine worldwide.
By the end of this full-day wine tour, your guide will drive you back to Porto with the drop off at your hotel’s door.
