A good part of the tour happens sitting down. Perfect if you took an intense walking tour in the morning or just feel like relaxing and learning how to appreciate Port Wine.
Starting on Porto’s side of the river we’ll start the tour by getting the participants comfortable and at ease. We’ll hear a historical contextualisation of Port Wine whilst we walk along to the shady cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. There will be a guided visit to the museum and cellar of one of the most prestigious Port Wine houses, followed by a tasting of a Reserve Tawny and Reserve White Ports.
We’ll talk about what makes port wine so different from other wines and learn when it should be consumed and how to tell the difference between the different Port Wine families.
Followed by a visit to an old cellar transformed into visiting center, having the opportunity to get into contact with the ins and outs Port Wine barrels and learn how cork, the noble wine preserving material, is produced. We won’t leave the visiting center without trying a delicate and young Ruby Port.
The third place we visit to is a modern, interactive Port Wine intepretation center. Built to close the gap between the Douro Valley and the Wine cellars, it offers us the possibility of getting into contact with the oldest wine region in the world, where the grapes are grown, and the exclusive professional tasting room. Reserved only for the few we’ll have a wine tasting workshop with 4 different wines, learning how to taste the different families of Port Wine and pair them with food.
End the tour on an amazing panoramic view terrace, appreciating one of the oldest and most elegant cities in the world.

Booked two days before with Viator. David met us at the bridge and was helpful from the start. Communicated well to the whole group and really looked after us all. Interesting tour of the A. Ramos Pinto port wine museum. A short walk through Gaia to another lodge and we then had a professional tasting lesson. Tasted a mixture of 7 different ports, which were delightful. David had a lot of knowledge about the history of the Gaia lodges and the ports.

Comprehensive tour and tastings at the port houses in Gaia. Tasted a wide variety of wines and learned from knowledgeable tour guide and reps at each house. Now that I've been once, I would probably return to specific houses independently, but a group tour was a nice introduction.

This tour was great! Our guide, David, was funny and knowledgeable and really made the tour a huge hit. We did another walking tour later on with another guide from this tour group, Porto Walkers, and it is clear that this tour company makes a big effort to hire not only knowledgeable, but also entertaining, guides.

It was my third Port tasting so by then I have already absorbed many of the classifications. Good guide, though he cracked too many jokes.

This was a long four hour tour, as we visited three wineries. It says 7 tastings so you think you'll be sipping at each stop, but it was more like visit them - learn a lot, and then try some port at the end. I think it could have done much better with walking and sipping or learning with the actual samples in front of you. The tour guides were all incredibly sweet, great at English and very informative. I think I would have chosen to just sample at the wineries on my own if I could do it all over.
