After pickup at your Madurai hotel at 8am, travel by private car and driver to (Tiruchirappalli) to visit the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple (or Thiruvarangam Tamil) where your guide explains why this Hindu temple, dedicated to Ranganatha (a reclining form of Vishnu) is so important and why the temple's location, on an island in the Cauvery River has left it vulnerable to natural disasters.
Next, around 1pm, stop for lunch (additional cost) and then continue to Thanjavur to visit the Royal Palace complex and Brahadeshwarar Temple. Also visit Peruvudaiyar Kovil, a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva with is an outstanding example of Tamil architecture during the Chola dynasty. Also known as Periya Kovil, Brihadeshwara Temple, RajaRajeswara Temple and Rajarajeswaram, this temple is one of the largest in India.
