Modena is one of Italy’s most affluent cities and is famous for its automotive industry which produces some of the worlds most sought after car marks like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Panini. It is also an area renowned for its wonderful food production but above all Modena is a city of culture where art and history abound!
Luciano Pavarotti was born in this corner of Italy and it is also brimming with famous restaurants like chef Massimo Bottura’s acclaimed Osteria Francescana. But there is so much more to see!
Modena boasts 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and on this tour you get to visit them all; the Cathedral with its famous tower and Piazza Grande.
You will be accompanied by a local and very knowledgeable top-rated guide who will regale you with stories and anecdotes and introduce you to the fascinating history of the people and places of Modena. As you stroll through the narrow streets of the city centre you will see wonderful ancient palaces come and join us on this journey into history!
A walk through the Modena’s quaint old streets brings you to Piazza Grande, the Cathedral and the Ghirlandina.
Here in the very heart of the city you will also visit Mercato Albinelli the city’s oldest market. The market is the hub of daily life and here you can get a taste of modern- day living in this vibrant city.
Then, follow your guide across the centre of town along the streets that were once canals, learning their names as go. The tour ends in Piazza Roma where the guide will tell you a little about Modena’s Renaissance Period and relate something of the history of the Ducal Palace.
Included in the tour is a visit to the Novi Sad Park, a fascinating archaeological site where you will learn something of Modena’s Roman past.
