Stop At: Centro Storico, Assisi, Province of Perugia, Umbria
Meet the guide at 10:30am and visit the old Roman ruins of the local amphitheater, which was reused in the Middle Ages as a quarry for stones to build local houses. You will see how the amphitheater was turned into a private neighborhood. From there, the view toward the Rocca Maggiore medieval castle is one of the best in the city.
Through narrow alleys and medieval squares you will reach Saint Rufino’s Cathedral and Saint Claire's Basilica. From there, you will get to the main city square, Piazza del Comune. At the square you will see one of the best-preserved Roman temples in Italy Minerva's temple which is surrounded by imposing medieval government buildings.
The tour will then head down to the Basilica of Saint Francis which is world-famous for its 13th-14th century frescoes by the best painters of Italy at that time. Among those, the most famous is Giotto.
Come to Assisi and explore with a guide the history, art,and local traditions of one of the most famous hill towns of Italy.

Chiesa Nuova.
The Chiesa Nuova is a church in Assisi, Italy, built in 1615 on the site of the presumed birthplace of St. Francis, the house of Pietro di Bernardone. It was then called Chiesa Nuova because it was the last church to be built in Assisi at that time.

The Basilica of St. Clare of Assisi, realized with the typical pink stone extracted from the quarry of the Subasio mountain, contains precious frescos dating back to the period from the XIIth to the XIVth century.
In the chapel on the right, along the unique nave of St. Clare of Assisi, finishing in transept and polygonal apse, you can admire the Crucifix which, according to tradition, would have invited St. Francesco in the church of St. Damiano in order to "reset up the Church"

If the solemn and dark lower basilica invites penance and silence, the upper church soars into the sky, airy and bright.
In a Gothic style with French influences, the nave has four bays, cross vaulting, and a polygonal transept and apse.

Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the basilica of St. Francis was built under the direction of Brother Elias, vicar general and architect of the order, starting in 1228, just two years after the saint's death, as a place designed to receive his remains.

The Temple of Minerva is an ancient Roman building in Assisi, Umbria, central Italy. It currently houses a church, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, built in 1539 and renovated in Baroque style in the 17th century.

We have great time guided by Alessandra in Assissi! Certainly, Alessandra made the diference! Her Knowledge and simpathy are unique! She gave us many suggestions including de Frantorio Oleario Brunozzi tha was incredible! I strongly recomend this tour!

Our tour was excellent. The guide, Alessandra, was brilliant. No trouble understanding our Scottish and Canadian dialects. We saw lots and learned lots about St Francis and St Claire. As well we have a good understanding of the art in the Basillica. Highly recommend the this tour. We started at the top of Assisi and worked our way down which helped with the walking. Our tour guide, Alessandra, was delightful. She was very accommodating as we kept on meeting members of our group along the way but that did not phase her. She is very knowledgeable and took extra time to share details of the artists as we had a little bit of previous knowledge. Magic. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from our group.

Our guide Michele was fantastic. He was thorough in is explanations and spent extra time on the things we were most interested in. It was just the two of us so basically a private tour.

Alessandra led us on a three-hour adventure through Assisi. We started at the top of the city, worked our way through three major cathedrals and ended at the Basilica of St. Francis. The tour covers the Roman ruins, the origins of the Poor Claires and the Franciscan Order, all the way to present-day and the more recent rebuilding of the Basilica. She knew so much about the history and the art of the region that three hours passes rather quickly. To say that Alessandra is captivating is an understatement. Since I basically planned our stay in Assisi around this tour, I was a little surprised when Alessandra mentioned that groups are usually small. She explained that the train from Rome doesnt get in early enough for the tour and its only offered a couple times a week. MAKE TIME FOR THIS ONE! This tour is worth it. Without this tour, I feel like visiting Assisi would be like seeing a postcard and not experiencing the history of the city.

Michele was amazing and so knowledgeable. The countryside was spectacular and if you are a St. Francis fan like me, go here then ask for the tour of the Porziuncola!! Must go to the small local deli for the porchetta as well!!!!

This was perfect for us in every way: incredibly knowledgeable guide who easily adjusted to our interests, answered our questions in full and provided enough time for us to experience on our own the most moving of the religious venues. We both learned and enjoyed just the right combination.

It was my 3rd visit to Assisi. I visited most of places by myself for last 2 visits, but I realized that the guided tour should have been arranged. This tour was absolutely helpful. Not only about the churches, but also about the historical background of Assisi itself.

Allesandra was a wonderful tour guide and imparted so much knowledge of St. Francis and St. Claire. Although it was pouring rain, the whole experience was great! I recommend this tour! Wear good shoes! Waterproof would help if rain is predicted!!!
