We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the ferry. There was a cup of tea and huge muffin for us to enjoy while we waited to board the ferry. The river was fairly calm for both journeys to and from the Island but we heard it can be choppy. We took the train to Oliver Hill to learn about the guns installed to protect Perth during WW2. On the trip back it included a lunch of chicken wrap, muffin and water. We then boarded a bus for a tour of the entire island. The driver of both the train and the bus was very informative and stopped often for photo opportunites. We saw many quokkas along the way. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We enjoyed this tour. The guide was very informative and kind. The military history was fascinating but perhaps it could have been shortened so that more time could have been spent at the lighthouse and other stops. But the ladies giving the tours were excellent. We wish we could have spent more time searching for quorkas! The lunch could have been better but when I asked not to have a wrap, they prepared me a wonderful salad!

This should have been a good day out but was ruined for us by disorganisation and overbooking on the part of the company plus the lack of an organised time slot for lunch. On reflection we should have taken the cycling option, though wed have seen less of the whole island as being mature travellers the undulating terrain would have been challenging, but Rottnest is a beautiful place which you shouldnt overlook when visiting Perth.

From the start, with a lovely morning tea on the wharf to the end, this was a great tour. When you don't know the place, go with an expert, I enjoyed myself all day.

What a wonderful trip. Well organised although we didnt get a pick up from our hotel. We had to meet the transfer bus at another hotel 20 mins walk away. This is the only criticism of the trip. The morning tea at the jetty and ferry ride over started what was to become a highly enjoyable outing. The train ride up to the gun emplacement was fun with some of the ladies being invited to toot the horn. The drivers commentary was great. The history of the fort and tour was brilliant. On the trip back down on the train we had a simple lunch of wraps, muffins and bottled water. Plenty to go round. Our bus journey then took us to see a number of other wonderful sites but it was our number of stops to see and photograph the quokkas that was the highlight. A great day trip from Perth.

I enjoyed this. The people were friendly and professional throughout, from bus driver collecting folk from their hotels to the driver/guides on the islands. The WW2 history was interesting and the mechanics of the big gun installations quite fascinating. The tour around the island was enjoyable with plenty to see. At the west end there was a view with colourful sea, an osprey on its nest around to the left, Australasian fur seals around to the right, a pod of bottlenose dolphins just beyond the surf and, a little further out, a humpback whale. There were shearwaters, silver gulls and flocks of galah cockatoos here too. The quokkas are hugely photogenic and found across the island. This served my purpose as a day to decompress and let the mind wander perfectly.

Great trip, worked like clockwork, and a great way to see Rottnest in a short period of time.
    Guides were fantastic

The reason that this trip was just 3 stars is because I think that they should have better explained the emphasis on the military history of the island. The tour description suggested that this was one of many sites but it actually encompassed 2 of the 3.5 hour tour. The one hour train ride is 30 minutes up to the military site and 30 minutes back. Then you spend 1 hour reviewing the military history of the island. I would not have chosen this tour if I had known we would have so little time for the tour of the rest of the island. We didn't get to go up in the lighthouse or see the pink lake. We were also rushed at the beautiful coastal stops. However, this tour was a great value for the price- which included hotel pickup and drop off from Perth, the ferry ride to Rottnest, a pastry and coffee for breakfast, as well as lunch. I recommend it if you like military history. If not, consider using the company to get to you and from the island and grab a lunch then hop on the explorer bus and do your own tour of the island.
