Enjoy complimentary pickup from your downtown hotel or Airbnb as your guide drives to Kelly Ingram Park to begin your historical tour of Civil Rights sights in Birmingham. Pickups are 5-15 minutes before the tour begins. If you have not scheduled a pickup meet your guide at the Fred Shuttlesworth statue in front of the Civil Rights Institute. The tour starts promptly at 9:45 AM.
Our small group of no more than 12-14 will walk around the park as you learn about the origins of segregation in the city of Birmingham and state of Alabama. We then visit the following sights: Linn Park, Boutwell Auditorium, Parker High School, Dynamite Hill, Bethel Baptist Church, Phillips High School, sight of Freedom Riders attack, Kelly Ingram Park, Gaston Motel, 16th Street Baptist Church. Depending on availability we may access the interior of Historic Bethel Baptist Church. While being driven around Birmingham your guide will lead you every step of the way and talk about what made Birmingham so integral to the fall of segregation.

I learned so much about civil rights in Birmingham and that is a subject I've studied. Clay did a remarkable job and packed so much into 3 hours. I hope to take the tour again.

Clay is an amazing guide as he tells the story of the Civil rights movement in Birmingham from the 1930s through the 1960s. He knows his stuff!!! And he takes you into parts of Birmingham that tourists seldom visit -- though the should if they want to really understand Birmingham. This tour is just as good (if not better) than tours I have taken in Europe and Latin America. I cannot recommend it highly enough.,

Clay, our tour guide is a walking encyclopedia! His knowledge about the civil rights movement in Birmingham and also the town's history is amazing! He is also personable and considerate. The tour went overtime due to him taking the time to thoroughly answer our questions. I would do it again!

Clay arrived at the hotel as agreed and exactly on time, he then advised us that we were the only participants. It was an excellent tour Clay is very knowledgeable and passionate and told us lots that we knew nothing about. He answered any questions and talked about this time in the history of Birmingham as well as telling us about other more current things.
Don't miss the chance to find out, even though it is sometimes upsetting to realise how people can treat each other. Food for thought, thanks Clay. Well worth the time and money, don't miss out. -
This was an excellent tour! I lucked up and was the only one on the tour so it was a 1 on 1 with Clay. He is extremely passionate about making sure you learn all about the history of Birmingham...the good and the bad. If you only have time to do one tour in Birmingham this is it! Not to be missed! This is a must do tour! It's a frank and earnest look at an ugly past that will leave steeped in thought and reflection about the future of our Nation! I've recommended this tour to everyone I've come into contact since. I had ten people from a wedding I attended ready to sign up the next day but the tour was closed that Monday. I wish I could remember the young man's name who gave the tour. He was fantastic! I don't remember his name not because it's not important but because the information that he imparted left me reeling, sad, angry, upset, emotional,and in need of some reflection. None of which was bad, just powerful. It was everything I had hoped for and more!
