On this day trip to Lucerne and Engelberg, travel from Zurich by comfortable coach through the scenic Swiss Alps via Albis Pass and along the shores of the Lake Lucerne.
Stop At: Luzern
During your drive into Lucerne, the guide will tell you some historical anecdotes about this Swiss town and will point out the main sites such as the Chapel Bridge, Town Hall and the new Concert and Congress Hall . Afterwards you have approximately 50 - 60 minutes time to explore Lucerne by yourself.
Duration: 50 minutes
Stop At: Engelberg
Continue on a breathtaking journey up to the mountain resort town of Engelberg. A typical Swiss alpine town in the canton of Obwalden, Engelberg is located in the sunny basin under the north face of Mt Titlis and is one of Switzerland’s leading mountain resorts. Visitors flock here in both summer and winter to take advantage of its natural features and sporting opportunities and to watch the ski jumping world cup at Gross-Titlis-Schanze.
This part of the trip will be unguided but feel free to explore at your leisure. Stroll around the village on your own and take the opportunity to tour a traditional Swiss cheese factory located in a monastery. Here, see an impressive collection of regional cheeses and other milk products. Enjoy doing some shopping or trying one of the traditional cheese specialties in the Bistro (own expense).
Visit the imposing Baroque-style monastery and learn about how Engelberg was originally founded by the Benedictine monks. Alternatively, take one of the many local hiking trails and explore the valley on foot while enjoying the peace and tranquility of this part of the Swiss Alps.

At the end of the day, meet your guide at the arranged time and board your coach for the journey back to Zurich.

Compact tour of Lucerne and Engelbert. Perfect for those who have limited time in Zurich.Guide Cathrin and Driver Feliciano were fantastic.

This was by far the worst tour I took on this trip.
Massive bus with almost 4 different tour groups, so you can imagine the amount of overlap and randomness in terms of what is covered. Our first stop was at Lucerne where we barely had ONE hour to cover a bustling combination of old and new city, with gorgeous bridges and eat! Obviously we couldn't cover much and rushed back for pick up. The first set of tour group remained at Lucerne for the rest of their tour This was for the full day at Lucerne tour.
The rest of us headed off to the next dropoff at Stanserhorn.
On our way to the next dropoff, Mt Titlis, the guide announced that the weather up the mountain was good and things were OK, since the state out of the window was not promising - rainy and foggy. We didn't hear anything for Engelberg. Next dropoff was almost all the guests except 3 of us, along with the driver. Along with just one map in hand, we got off the bus. The driver didn't speak much English and apart from the guide telling us about a cheese factory and monastery, there was no other information.
It was a horrible weather with pouring rain. We headed to the nearest cheese factory, which turned to be a single glass display case in the middle of a store where one single lady was arranging cheese. The factory details were printed on a piece of paper in different languages - we were done in 10 minutes.
The monastery was closed to the public and the tour wasn't available until 3 hours later. We also discovered it was an additional charge to tour and the tour was only available in German. Since we didn't understand German, we headed to the church and even that was closed.
We walked into the village and voila, everything was closed. The stores, eating places, nothing was open. We spent 3 hours walking around in a closed town with NOTHING to do in a miserable weather. The only stores that were open were Co-op and Migros, which is where we managed to get some lunch.
We were back in the bus, again waiting for all the different tour groups to be picked up along the way and had the worst experience of all.
After the tour, we contacted the company and they refused to refund for the right proportion of the day that we wasted and charged us for a full day Lucerne tour, when we only got 1 measly hour to look around. The guide failed to give us options to decide. If we had known Engelberg was mostly closed, we could have chosen to remain at Lucerne or at least proceed to Mt Titlis. It was a real ripoff and colossal waste of time. But of course the tour company doesn't agree with that.
I will definitely not recommend this for anyone. -
The trip to Engelberg alone should be canceled. People should instead take the Lucerne and Mt. Titlis trip OR just take Lucerne trip if they don't want to go up Mt. Titlis. There is nothing to do in Engelberg if you are not going up to Mt. Titlis. We were there on a Monday and it appeared like a ghost town. The is a very small monastery where you can spend 15-20 min and a church where you get spend another 15-20 minutes.

The trip was amazing, the guide was cheerful, energic and very prepared. We enjoyed very much this trip and we truly recommend it.

Beautiful scenic drive through the Alps, tour was very informative.

Not enough tour guide in Lucerne, where we were left on our own and did not really get the value of having a guide on that stop. We felt like we missed out on seeing more of the town. Also, there were 3 different tours on our bus, each stopping and picking up at different places at the end of the day. The extra transport stops made it a long day with very little guided site seeing.
The town of Engelberg was best summed up by our guide, who when dropping us off on the side of the road told us there really isn't anything to do or see here. Dissapointed overall with this tour. Highlights the Lion of Lucern statue and finding a nice Irish bar in Engelberg. -
Luzern is an amazing city! Once you're there you get a few tips on what to do, it's pretty unstructured but the city itself is great.

One of the most amazing trips to kick start our trip in Zurich! The tour guide was nice and friendly. Engel berg is so beautiful and scenic we almost didn’t want to go home. We would not be able to visit all the photo stops on our own so this trip is worth every cent!
