This tour of the Franschhoek region of the Cape Winelands is ideal for both the experienced and beginner horse rider who would love to combine a thrilling horse ride through the beautiful mountain backdrops and classic Cape Dutch architecture of the Winelands with a visit to a wine estate for a wine tasting.
The tour begins in Cape Town with a 45 minute scenic drive to a horse ranch in Franschhoek where you will begin a 2 to 3 hour ride on purebred Arabian Horses through rolling vineyards, magnificent mountain backdrops and quaint classic Cape Dutch homesteads to visit 2 of the best wine estates in the region. You will spend at least 30 to 45 minutes at each wine farm while being taught about the process of wine making and getting an opportunity to taste a variety of their award winning vintages.
The tour proceeds with a drive through the town of Franschhoek with a chance to go on a walking tour of the old town. Franschhoek, which means "French Corner" in Afrikaans, was founded in the 17th Century when the French Huguenot refugees settled in the region. Most of these refugees named their wine farms after the places in France from which they came. La Motte, La Dauphine, Champagne, La Cotte, Cabri□re, La Provence, Bourgogne and La Terra de Luc have all gone on to produce some of the world's best wines and the town still maintains that French like atmosphere.
Due to its huge variety of culinary offerings and award winning wines, Franschhoek is described by many as the "food and wine capital of South Africa. On the walking tour you will get to experience the variety of award winning restaurants, antique shops, art galleries, cozy coffee shops and well preserved examples of Cape Dutch architecture that Franschhoek has to offer.
