The communist Civic Center
We ross Dambovita River to the other side of central Bucharest where Romania's last communist dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, built a completely different city after demolishing several historical neighbourhoods.
The Palace of the Parliament
We visit the Parliament Palace, the second largest administrative building in the world and a symbol of the communist regime. This is no doubt the most famous landmark from Romania’s communist period and the second largest administrative building in the world. Part of Ceausescu’s vision for creating his own version of the capital, the construction is truly monumental with more than 1,000 rooms. It's full of details, like hand-made decorations from the finest and most expensive materials, including 1 million cubic meters of marble and 3.5 tonnes of crystal.
The tour of the Parliament takes approximately one hour and a half. Ten minutes walk afterwards to visit two of the centuries-old churches that escaped communist demolitions after being moved from their original location.

The Revolution and the 21st of December Squares
Two central squares in the heart of Bucharest, both testament of the Revolution of 1989, key places for the collective memory of Bucharest. The small 21st of December Square was the central location of the violent events of December 1989 and the early 90's, when groups of people occupied it to protest against the communist regime. We stop in the Revolution Square for an ample presentation of the events in December 1989 and the history of the Romanian Communist Party.
We also stop in front of the former Royal Palace and the Atheneum for more stories related to the time of the communist regime.
To reach the next location from the itinerary, we take the subway, a major infrastructure project of the communist regime and one of its most important achievements in Bucharest.
Ceausescu Mansion
We visit the house where dictator Nicolae Ceausescu lived until he was executed on Christmas Day 1989. Preserved like in the old days, the mansion is one of the best examples of Ceausescu's cult of personality and the overall fake image built around image by the communist propaganda.
This attraction is only part of the tours done from Tuesday to Sunday.

This was a fantastic tour - the guide was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. We would give this 10 stars if we could. We saw so much and learnt so much and at the end the guide even refused to take a tip. We felt more like we were being shown around by a friend or relative than by a paid guide. I would recommend this tour and this particular guide to anyone. We have had several experiences with Viator - all good but this one was truly exceptional.
