Leave your Lisbon hotel and head northwest by luxury minibus to the town of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site popular for its 19th-century European Romantic architecture. After a journey of roughly half an hour, arrive in the town to discover its charms.
First stop of your day is Pena Palace, easily Sintra’s most famous architectural icon with its over-the-top, fairy-tale architecture the kind of castle that was designed from a child’s dream. Created in the 1800s for King Ferdinand, the palace is similar in appearance to Bavaria’s famous Neuschwanstein Castle.
After a 1.5-hour lunch break (included if option selected) in Sintra, meet your guide and visit the medieval Sintra Palace, with its smooth white fa ade. Originally built in the 10th century, the palace now boasts a mixture of Gothic, Moorish and Manueline architecture, and while its exterior is less ornate, the inside will dazzle you with extravagant rooms like the Blazons Hall, decorated in vivid blue tiles. Stroll around with your guide and learn about King Manuel I who commissioned the interior’s elaborate d□cor.
As you explore, your guide will point out drawbridges, ramparts, domes and fascinating gargoyles all painted in pretty pastel colors. Learn about the many architectural styles that comprise this astounding building, like Neo-Gothic, Islamic and Neo-Renaissance, and admire the palace’s richly decadent Victorian and Edwardian rooms. Marvel at the Arab Room with its elaborate frescoes, and enjoy panoramic views of town from the windows.
Continue for the last visit of your day Queluz Palace. Known as the Portuguese Versailles, this 18th-century palace with its ornate gardens, statues and fountains was the last of the Europe’s Rococo (Late Baroque) buildings. While exploring with your guide, admire its decorative art that adorns rooms like the elegant Throne Room and the Royal Bedroom with its distinctive domed ceiling.

This was a great day trip. Our guide was excellent as was our driver.It was a wonderful way to see the three palaces,and each was worth visiting because they are quite different from one another. I would advise people that there are a lot of steps on hard surfaces so be prepared for that.

This was a wonderful opportunity and tour to see beautiful Sintra and the palaces. We were amazed at our bus drivers driving on those windy roads so effortlessly. Lunch was wonderful and am so glad we included that in our tour. No complaints at all.

This was an outstanding tour, full of beautiful grounds, palaces and castles. The lunch was very nice with plenty of good food and wine. Our guide gave us 45 minutes after lunch to walk to the nearby Quinta da Regaleira gardens. Every tour to Sintra should include these fantastic and inspiring grounds. The Initiation Well made the quick tour worth it, even if we had no time to tour the residence which also looked interesting from the outside.

An excellent way to spend the day in Portugal. The group was small 15 persons. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. We had plenty of time to see all three castles.

Very interesting tour with a good guide. Unfortunately it started badly as the bus was 45 mins late to pick us up, and there was no commentary on the first leg as the microphone was not working.

Visit to thee 3 castles in Sintra is a must. But keep in mind there are other two castles there, besides the fortified remains of the Mouros castle on top of the hill. Regaleira Palace is a jewel, with a beautiful garden.
Ricardo, our guide took us to a great family type Restaurant, where we had the best fish ever at good prices. Great guy, very knowledgeable, one can tell he loves his country.
We came back to see Regaleira with same company, Inside Lisbon. They did a great job at fair prices. Thanks Jose! Funny guy: Com carne de vaca n o se morre de fome. LOL

Very enjoyable day in Sintra.

The tour trip to Sintra was excellent. Our guide, Anna, spoke very good English and easy to understand. I was amazed how well she could go back and forth between English and French, for the other visitors on our tour. The Pena Palace, the last one we visited was just spectacular. I felt the palaces just kept getting better. Our lunch was delicious. The place we ate had a wonderful atmosphere and the waiter was friendly and fun. I would highly recommend this tour!

This is a must see tour! Paula, our guide, was very informative. The palaces are stunning! This is luxury at its best! Make believing that I was taken back in time to this age of wonder was easy while wandering around these three gorgeous palaces! Abrigatto Paula!
