Meet your guide in central Lisbon in the early afternoon and begin your ascent up the narrow hills of the Alfama district.
Stop At: Alfama, Lisbon, Lisbon District, Central Portugal
Once the stomping ground of Lisbon’s drunks and thieves, it's now one of its most charming and colorful neighborhoods. It was one of only a few districts to survive a devastating earthquake in 1755 and much of its original architecture remains.
Duration: 40 minutes
Stop At: Castelo de S. Jorge
See the imposing turreted complex of St George’s Castle, which stands on an Alfama hilltop overlooking the shimmering Tagus River. Venture into the heart of Alfama, following your guide through mazes of narrow streets so tight you can touch both sides with outstretched arms.

Stop At: Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, Lisbon, Lisbon District, Central Portugal
Climb up to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, one of the highest and most fabulous viewpoints in the whole city. From here, the panoramic views stretch over all of Lisbon and you’ll be able to see the city's other hills, as well as the glistening Tagus River.

Stop At: Lisbon Cathedral
A traditional working-class district, Alfama is still popular among fishermen and their families, and you might even get to see some people selling fresh fish from roadside stalls. Stop to admire the Lisbon Cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century and pass by Lisbon’s National Pantheon, where important local figures including presidents, dignitaries and a famous Fado singers are buried.

OUTSTANDING!!! Tour was deferred to Today at my request as it was torrential rain on Friday. No problem at all. Rita was our guide and she was FANTASTIC! Intelligent with a very personal touch and knew all the characters in Alfama. Not only is she gorgeous she has an incredible breadth of knowledge.

This walking tour is a must do for those visitors who wish to experience the historical aspects of Lisbon. Jaimie, our tour guide, was informative, charming, articulate and welcomed questions about his wonderful city. The tour takes you through many narrow streets filled with historical intrigue which was brought to life by Jaimie as he talked about and introduced us to some of the Alfama residents. We passed by many restaurants where Fado is performed on a nightly basis. The wind and the up, up, uphill climb made it difficult for some participants. Comfortable walking shoes and the ability to do the hills is advisable. We had an awesome day and learned so much about the Alfama district past and present.

Traveling a lot and being used to default zombie guides I really enjoyed the personal take on this walking tour. Sofia brought her personal experience and knowledge to the walk and I appreciate her letting us try her local aquantencies. For the ones of you that like beautiful stories, a walk and an even amount of historic curiosities -this is it.
