This tour visits The Ullandhaug Tower, Viking Monument-Swords in Rock (Sverd i fjell) & Stavanger Cathedral. On the way to Ullandhaug we make a short stop at Hafrsfjord, where a historical sea battle was fought in the age of the Vikings 1100 years ago. From Ullandhaug Tower you will get a bird’s eye view over the city and the Ryfylke Fjords.
There will also be an opportunity to view the outside of Stavanger Cathedral (30 minutes), which was built of stone in the 12th century. The Cathedral was erected by Bishop Reinald from Winchester, England in 1125, after King Sigurd Jorsalfar (the Crusader) made Stavanger to a Cathedral Town. The very well preserved Middle Age Cathedral was originally erected in Anglo-Norman style, but after a fire in 1272, the vestibule was rebuilt in Gothic style.
There will also be a guided walking tour of the Old Town and the modern part of town. Some free time will be allocated to experience Stavanger and souvenir shop before boarding the coach for your return journey back to your ship.
