    Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Tulum Archaeological Site, Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula

Start your Viator Exclusive tour after early departure. Join your guide, a certified archaeologist, for an in-depth tour of Tulum — a walled Mayan city perched atop a cliff that overlooks the sparkling Caribbean Sea. You’ll arrive at the site and take in this tranquility just in time to beat the crowds.
As you tour Tulum, a Mayan word for wall, your guide provides informative commentary. Learn about the archaeological studies of the site and the Mayan civilization that occupied it. Hear evidence that places Tulum as one of the major Mayan cities of the 13th and 14th centuries in Quintana Roo, highlighted by its strategic coastal location, its elevation — the highest of any city the region — and its efficient defense system.
As you stroll among the ruins of this important city, you’ll discover what researchers have uncovered: a political settlement along a commercial route that exploited the rich marine resources off the coast. Today, Tulum is best known for its sandy beaches and the remnants of elaborate murals — once painted a vibrant red and blue over stark white walls.
Return in the afternoon and enjoy the rest of your day. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Tulum lets you beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure.
Please note: Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to help beat the heat for the duration of your tour. There will be a beach break in Tulum, too, so come prepared with a suit and towel if you plan on swimming.

This was a great chance to see Tulum before the heat and the crowds set in. The guided portion of the tour was shorter than advertised but it was interesting and our guide was friendly and entertaining. There was a big communication error with our booking, ending in our missing the originally scheduled day but Amigo Tours made it right and rescheduled for the next day. Just be careful with confirmation and dont rely upon a verbal one.

Beautiful and yet sad to see, the coastline is amazing and the architecture is beyond belief.

It was a good tour overall. First it was a guided tour to give us some background, then we were left to ourselves to wander. Plenty of time for curiosity and shopping!

The part at the ruins site itself was good. I was also glad that we booked early, before the heat and crowds really set in. However, I was deeply disappointed by the transport. On the way there, we were first collected by a very rickety van driven by a man who was constantly distracted by his phone. Having had to get our 2 young children up early to meet at a different hotel, it was annoying that a the driver was late and b drove right past our original hotel anyway to pick up other guests.

We did transfer to a larger coach 48 seater just outside Cancun, which seemed like a good move to start with but turned out to be a problem on the way home for the following reasons:

    1. the tour guide tried to cram too many people onto the bus and didn't seem to know who should be with us and who not.
    2. the bus stopped at 11 other hotels on the way back to Cancun, elongating the journey unnecessarily.
    3. the bus driver had a minor accident with another bus only a mile from our hotel, the altercation didn't seem to be ending so we left and caught a taxi the rest of the way.

Overall the ruins are worth going to, but Amigo are hopelessly disorganised, and I'd booked this because it sounded like it was a small tour, and therefore more efficient. It turned out to be very disappointing on all counts.

This is a well kept secret! Get there early before it is too hot and too crowded! Get back to your hotel in time for a swim!

I confess I was a bit disappointed with this tour. The archaeological site is small and crowded. The guide gave us a long and tedious explanation of the Mayan calendar. Overall, the tour was not bad, but I expected more. The best part of the tour was the wonderful view of the caribbean sea.

Early access tour with Mary to a lovely site. Some of the explanations got lost as she was doing dual languages with a majority being Spanish speakers. We didnt get the whole way round with the guide before being left to our own devices.
Early access is a must as by the time we left, the place was heaving.

I was picked up 1 hour late.
    Thanks Amigo Tours!

Got to Tulum at almost 9:30am (should be 8:00 am)

Tulum is very cool and you can climb the pyramid.
This is A+++ / NOT Amigo Tours

Once again toured with Amigo Tours. They were prompt with their pickup and we beat the crowds at Tulum. We spent the first hour and a half with our guide, Sara, while she discussed some of the history of the area. The remaining 90 minutes of the tour was our free time to visit the areas of the ruins which we did not see the first time around or visit the beach. The beach, in my opinion, wasnt the cleanest, so we roamed the ruins from a different view than from our guide originally took us in. I would have given them a higher rating, however, I feel we could have received much more information and seen more temples had our guide been more fit and able and willing to move us around more. We did a lot of standing or for some, sitting in one place while some items were discussed. In addition, the title of the tour states that this tour was to be with an Archeologist as with the Chichen Itza tour. I question whether our guide was in fact an archeologist as most of the information we received was information we could have found on the internet. We were back in Cancun by early afternoon and still had half a day left....for the price, I guess it was worth it.

We loved this tour but the biggest issue was a bus breakdown. There was a breakdown mechanically and with communications. It happened after our tour of Tulum which was fantastic. We got home safe and sound so overall a great day.
