After pickup in Sapporo, sit back and enjoy the scenery as your pre-arranged taxi driver whisks you out of the city to a beautiful mountainous area just 40 minutes away.
Your horseback-riding adventure starts in Mustang Town, a place with all the elements of a Hollywood western film, including classic wooden buildings and a riding instructor-guide known as 'the Sheriff.' Go through a safety briefing and introduction to the horses, all gentle animals that are suitable for beginner riders. You'll learn how to mount your horse, hold the reins and give some basic commands for turning and stopping. For more experienced riders, the Sheriff can provide advanced instruction.
Once you’re ready, the Sheriff leads you on your ride, or 'patrol,' as they say in the Wild West. From your vantage point atop your horse, admire the lush greenery and interesting formations of the nearby mountain, which has eight peaks. Pass through an orchard where you may be able to taste some fresh fruit, and meander along tree-lined trails, enjoying the fresh air and bucolic photo ops.

It was a cold and wet morning when I had my riding tour. I took the shorter duration but it was fun riding again after a long break. My horse named Cindy was a patient lady, though being a Japanese horse, tends to prefer to eat fresh grass rather than dried hay. Next time, I may take a longer duration and trek further afield.

The booking through Viator went smoothly and perfect, first time using their service. The driver was right on time to pick us up at the hotel. The private car was really nice, a higher end model. The driver didn't speak English, but was super kind. We arrived in 40 minutes to Wild Mustangs. We were treated very kindly by the staff and after putting on some insulated pants were up on the horse in no time. We spent about 15 - 20 minutes learning how to ride the horse and then went on our ride. My girlfriend had never been on a horse before, but I had. It was a good experience riding in the snow in Sapporo. The scenery was beautiful. I had imagined riding through fields of snow, but we pretty much stayed on the road, so I was a little disappointed in that, but overall a great experience.

The host and horses were wonderful. The taxi pickup was on time as well. The driver waited till we finished and sent us back to the hotel. Only one thing was I thought I would be riding through the hills and wilderness. Turned out it was just around their designated path. Was fun with the horse but didnt really get to enjoy the nature.
