After pickup from your downtown Sapporo hotel or the train station in the early evening, your guide takes your small group by minivan to Asahiyama Memorial Park, not far from the city center. Upon arrival, get outfitted in provided gear including a water-resistant snow jacket, pants, gloves, snowshoes, snowshoe poles and overshoes. Snowshoeing is easy to learn and no experience is necessary to glide through the snowscape. Just slip on your snowshoes and follow your guide as you walk across the abundant snow.Asahiyama Memorial Park is situated 450 feet (137 meters) above sea level and provides a panoramic view of central Sapporo and beyond to the Sea of Japan and Ishikari Heiya. Enjoy the chilly but refreshing air of the mountains as you experience Hokkaido's magical winter landscape, searching for bright stars above and Sapporo’s sparkling lights below. The shimmering city creates a fantastic backdrop, making the park a popular spot for local people.After about an hour in your snowshoes, enjoy a break to warm up with hot tea.Then continue along the snowy path as your guide points out any animals — think raccoons, squirrels and deer — that make the area their home. Once you’ve covered enough ground, your 4-hour night tour ends with drop-off at your departure point.
