Meet your informative local guide in either Arashiyama or Higashiyama (please select your preferable duration and location at checkout) and hop aboard an authentic rickshaw, a two-passenger wagon pulled by a person, invented in Japan in the late 19th century. As a historic, cosmopolitan city, Kyoto has an abundance of sites that should top every traveler’s list, but walking to all of them can be tiring and time-consuming. A rickshaw offers a comfortable, fun way to zip from one attraction to the next while learning about the city from your guide and driver. This tour is customizable; discuss with the rickshaw driver what you’d like to see. See Itinerary below two itineraries, one for Arashiyama and one for Higashiyama.行程概要出發地點

Meeting Location Option #1: Arashiyama
Your guide and chariot await at Kyoto’s iconic Togetsu-kyo bridge in Arashiyama, a nationally designated Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty on Kyoto’s western fringe. Be amazed by the district’s main attraction, a towering grove of thick bamboo stalks with a pedestrian and rickshaw path cutting through it. Seeing its beauty, you’ll understand why the Japanese have a fond appreciation for nature. Admire the scenery, which is a blend of serene nature, tended gardens, and dazzling shrines, as your rickshaw driver pulls you up the mountain. Next you’ll see the beautiful Nonomiya Shrine, a Shinto site. If you’ve chosen the 30-minute tour, at this point you’ll end back at the starting point. But if you choose a longer tour, up to 3 hours, you’ll continue through more of Arashiyama’s wealth of sites. Explore Rakushisya’s cottage, a rustic thatch-roof cottage that was once the home of one of Japan’s revered poets and haiku masters. Those continuing on will be pulled to spots not seen by many tourists. Explore more ancient temples, including Shinto shrines and the Buddhist Nison-in, as your guide whisks you through some amazing places before returning to Togetsu-kyo bridge.
Meeting Location Option #2: Higashiyama
Meet your guide and rickshaw at Ichinenzaka in Higashiyama, where geishas (known as geiko in Kyoto) still stroll the stone streets. You’ll want your camera out and ready, especially for the first portion of the tour, as you stop at the Shinto Heian Jingu Shrine and then wheel down Oyashiki street, a historic avenue lined with maple trees that turn red in autumn and cherry trees that blossom with pink flowers in spring. This is your best chance to see geishas or maiko (an apprentice geisha). Take in the history, which you can see reflected in the lattice-cloaked wood buildings. Admire the Nanzen-ji Buddhist temple, established by Emperor Kameyama in 1921, and then head on to the beautiful orange Heian Jingu Shrine. If you’re continuing on the rickshaw beyond 30 minutes for the extended tour (from 45 minutes to 3 hours), you’ll have the opportunity to see the breadth of Kyoto’s temples and shrines in the Higashiyama district, such as the Chion-in, Kennin-ji, Miyagawa-cho and Yasaka Pagoda, in addition to other iconic sites like the Shirakawa riverside and Nene-no-michi, a lane named after the wife of a famous warlord that is now a scenic flagstone walkway. Amazing!! One of the highlights in our trip to Japan! Tama was fantastic! He not only knew a lot about the city and history, but he was a wonderful photographer!! He knew were the best places for pictures!! He do wonders with your phone! We had a sunny day, just beautiful!! Totally recommended!!

The rickshaw tour was incredible. Our rickshaw operator Aki was simply the nicest guy. So happy with a big smile the whole time. And he was also quite knowledgeable, and a great photographer to boot.
It would have been worth it for the pictures alone I think. He got a neat looking vertical panoramic on our iphone in the bamboo forest. Then he showed us a picture of him taking Steve Carell around on a recent rickshaw tour in the area. It was legit, he was standing right next to him. Anyway, I highly suggest you have them end the tour near the entrance to the monkeys and go play with them up on the mountain for a while after your rickshaw tour. Just make sure you can walk all the way up the mountain, it took about 20 mins of huffing and puffing to get up there. But we weren't breathing as hard as Aki was after he took us around on the rickshaw, I can assure you of that -

Kooki was a fabulous Guide and we had simply the best time on this tour! He was also a fantastic photographer and took some great shots of us in the bamboo forest and in a hidden temple we would have never found! so much fun : worth every penny!

Can't remommend this tour enough!! We had a 2 hour tour or Arashiyama with Ita and it was excellent. Ita was a superb driver, had excellent English and was very knowledgable and friendly. He took us to lots of places off the beaten track including a beautiful temple where we were the only visitors.

AMAZING Tour! Highly recommend! We took the 2 hour long ride and wish we would have done the 3 hour. We visited Arashiyama. Beautiful greens, bamboo forest, and our driver even took us to a Buddist temple. Very small and quaint tucked within a neighborhood. The garden was beautiful! Spoke really good english and knew much about the lore around town. He stopped to take several pictures of us. Great experience and is on my to do list for our next visit!

This was absolutely a highlight of our trip. My husband and I had ITA as our driver and his knowledge of the area set the tone for the rest of our day. We've seen areas that walking tourists would easily miss. We could never repay his kindness and his patience. Forever grateful for his hard work!
