You will be picked up by the guide from your hotel and driven to the Churchgate Railway Station, the starting point of our tour. Here, you will see the dabbawalas disembarking the dabbas in their wooden carts from the local train. Watch these dabbawalas segregate the boxes and transfer them in trolleys for delivery. Don’t stop here as you will be escorted towards the platform to board the local train to Mahalaxmi Station.
After arrival at Mahalaxmi Railway Station, observe the dabbawalas and listen as your guide teaches you about the alphanumeric color coding system they invented and how their flawless method has attracted top business schools in the world. As they set out on their task of delivering the boxes to skyscrapers and multinational companies, understand this 125 year old system. The boxes are then driven by 3-4 dabbawalas in different directions for delivery by bicycle.
Moving ahead, you proceed to the open air laundry area firmly known as Dhobi Ghat. A unique feature of Mumbai apart from the rest of the world, a Dhobi is a traditional laundryman who collects your dirty linen, washes them in an open area and then returns them neatly pressed to your doorstep. The massive area where the laundry is done is called a "Ghat". The clothes are soaked in sudsy water, thrashed on the flogging stones, then tossed into huge vats and hung out to dry. The process is non-stop and more than two hundred Dhobis and their families work together in what has always been a hereditary occupation. Tour didn’t feel like private at all. Minimum attention to client, minimum info given, not one word spoken in 50 minutes of driving. Not worth paying 170$ for 20 minutes of unwanted took: this is temple; that is mosque; l don’t know.... do not waste your time and money, look for the better company

We had a fantastic time on this our. Our guide Mr Arun was an absolute pleasure to spend the morning with. He was really informative explaining many aspects of the way of life in Mumbai in a short 3 hour tour. We caught a train, watched the lunch box men deliver the lunches and visited a working laundry slum area. The people there were really welcoming to tourists. Would highly recommend booking this tour especially if time is limited.

- A uniquely Mumbai phenomenon, watching the army of Dabbawalas pouring out of Churchgate Station with their crates load with tiffin boxes for hungry office workers was one of the most amazing spectacles we’ve ever witnessed. It’s truly mind-blowing the order and accuracy in which the dabbawalas perform their jobs. When we were finished at Churchgate, we then hopped on the local train to Dhobi Ghat to watch the huge outdoor laundry facilities dating back to English rule. Another mind blowing site to see, there are thousands of families hand washing tons of uniforms, bedsheets, and more for customers all around Mumbai. Our guide did a great job of telling us not only about these two experiences, but about the history of Mumbai too.
