After departing Kolkata for your flight to Bagdogra, you’ll be driven to Darjeeling, a beautiful Himalayan city in West Bengal.
The next day, head to Ghum (or Ghoom) and board the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (‘Toy Train’) to the summit to watch a gorgeous sunrise over the Himalayas.
Your guide will then take you on a sightseeing tour of sites like Ghum Monastery (or Ghoom Monastery), the Batasia Loop War Memorial, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. In the evening, stroll through local markets with your guide and enjoy yummy Indian bites from food stalls (own expense).
Your third and fourth days include free time and an enlightening sightseeing tour in Gangtok in the eastern Himalayas. On visits to several monasteries and religious institutions, you’ll learn about Tibetan Buddhism and browse collections of ancient artifacts and religious relics. You’ll then travel back to Kolkata to conclude your tour.
Your knowledgeable local guide will teach you about the sites you visit, and you’ll have free time to explore on your own. You’ll stay in your choice of 4- or 5-star hotels, with daily breakfast and dinners and ground transportation by private, air-conditioned vehicle included.
You can choose to pre-book your own flights or include them in the tour price. During your free time, you will have access to a private driver (at an additional cost).

Day 1: Kolkata Bagdogra Darjeeling (D)
After pickup from your Kolkata hotel, you’ll be taken to the airport for your pre-booked or included flight (if option selected) to Bagdogra. When you land, you’ll be driven to Darjeeling for hotel check-in and dinner.
Overnight: 4-star or 5-star hotel in Darjeeling
Day 2: Darjeeling (B,D)
Early in the morning, your guide will drive you to Ghum. When you get to this small hilly area, take a train ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway ('Toy Train') -- the highest railway station in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site -- up to the summit, Tiger Hill. You’ll be met here with a spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas, with rays projected beautifully on Mt Kanchenjunga.
Your guide will also take you to Ghum Monastery and Batasia Loop War Memorial. Here, enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view of Darjeeling with Kanchenjunga and the snowy mountains as a backdrop. Return to the bottom of the mountain by Jeep and arrive back at your hotel for breakfast.
In the afternoon, take a half-day sightseeing tour with your guide. Drive around Darjeeling and visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, which has a successful breeding program for snow leopards, endangered Himalayan wolves and red pandas.
Continue to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, which offers courses in mountaineering, and the Tibetan Refugee Self-help Center, a rehabilitation center for local Tibetan refugees.
In the evening, take a guided walk through the Mall area, full of food stalls, markets and shops where you can purchase any souvenirs that catch your eye (own expense). After your tour, head back to your hotel for dinner.

Day 3: Darjeeling Gangtok (B,D)
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic 3-hour drive to Gangtok, the capital and largest town of the Indian state of Sikkim located in the eastern Himalayan range. When you arrive, check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day to relax or explore at your leisure. Return to your hotel for dinner.

Day 4: Gangtok (B,D)
Start your day with breakfast before embarking on a half-day sightseeing tour with your guide. Visit Rumtek Monastery, also called the Dharmachakra Chakra Center, which is currently the largest monastery in Sikkim and home to a community of Tibetan Buddhist monks.
Here, see several sacred Buddhist relics, some of which date back to the 16th century. Then, visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which promotes research on Tibetan religion, history, language, art and culture.
Marvel at the main building’s imposing style of Sikkimese architecture, and then enter to browse a large collection of Buddhist books, manuscripts and fascinating artifacts. Learn from your guide how devotees and pilgrims come here from all over the world to pray and chant mantras.
Your guide can offer recommendations on where to have lunch. Afterward, head to Enchey Monastery -- said to have been a residence of the deities Khangchendzonga and Yabdean -- where you’ll see images of Buddhist gods and goddesses.
Next, at the Government Institute of Cottage Industry, peruse various traditional items like wooden masks and carved tables, and learn how this center was established for the preservation of traditional arts and crafts of Sikkim.
Head back to your hotel for dinner.

Day 5: Gangtok Bagdogra Kolkata (B,D)
After breakfast, your guide will drive you back to Bagdogra to board your pre-booked or included flight (if option selected) back to Kolkata. Upon arrival, you’ll be taken to your hotel. Enjoy free time to explore Kolkata on your own or relax at the hotel

Day 6: Kolkata (B)
Your check-out time is noon, so you have all morning to relax or sightsee on your own. You’ll then be taken to the airport for your departure flight.
