We will pick you up Kochi Port Ships Berth at 13.00 hrs and transfer to Mattancherry to visit the Mattancherry Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese and presented to the Raja of Kochi in 1555. The palace is famous for its stunning murals portraying scenes from Hindu tales, such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Also go for a short stroll along the Jew Street/Jew Town shops .
Later drive and visit the Dhobi Khana - The local laundry place. It is a place where the cloths are still washed by hands in the traditional way. The clothes are being washed in the cubicles and then dried at the adjacent piece of land where there are long ropes to hang many clothes .
Later transfer to Fort Kochi for a short walking tour visiting St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. The church was constructed in 1503 by Portuguese friars and is now the burial place of Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer who led the first ships sailed directly from Europe to India.
Next we will visit Santa Cruz Basilica, one of the largest and most impressive churches in India. The church has two soaring spires and a bright, white-washed exterior. Inside you will find walls decorated with frescoes, murals, and large paintings depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. Stroll along the street of Fort Kochi to see Chinese fishing nets that were introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan in the 14th century. Kochi fishermen still use the fishing nets to earn their livelihoods.
From 16.00 hrs watch live performance of Kerala martial art called Kalaripayattu in cultural center (approx. 1 hour). Kalaripayattu includes strikes, kicks, grappling, preset forms, weaponry and healing methods.
