Your first stop is Harburg, one of the oldest, largest and best preserved castles of Southern Germany. It was an important military stronghold during the 11th and 12th centuries. Through the Swabian crater landscape passing Dinkelsbuhl, you will arrive in Rothenburg, a preserved medieval town in Europe. Spend about three hours in Rothenburg, with plenty of time for sightseeing, lunch, and shopping.
A popular attraction is the Kathe Wolhfahrt Christmas Store on Herrngasse, a large store open year round where you can purchase ornaments, nutcrackers, and other Christmas items. Many of the highlights in Rothenburg are centered around Marktplatz, such as the Town Hall with its Rothenburg History Museum, and St Jakob's Church, a Gothic building with soaring ceilings filled with light.

Its a long trip from Munich , so time given was not enough to explore Rothenburg. It would be lovely to come back and stay overnight in Rothenburg. Overall the tour was what I expected. Ride was comfortable and guide knowledgeable . I love that the guide threw in a bird’s eye view of Munich’ s other tourist sites. Must see!

lucky to book a sunday tour. harburg castle tour was led by a new guide, eva, who despite little english managed to give us a good tour. rothenburg was like going back in time - very quaint town and very good freshly pressed apple juice near museum at town center. we’d book viator again for this tour since all went well!

Highly recommend this tour. I unfortunately was stricken with motion sickness as I forgot my medication at the hotel and the road is very curvy but I didnt let that ruin things. Once we had boots on the ground, and a little food, I was able to really enjoy the walled village and everything else that went with it.

We really enjoyed ourselves on this tour. The drive was scenic and gorgeous. Rothsburg was a cute and romantic little town. We loved touring the castle - definitely pay the extra change to go see it.

This was a long day, but very worthwhile! The countryside was incredible and the tour guide shared so much history and knowledge! She was very good! The castles and Rothenburg are just like the story books. We ate a restaurant our guide suggested and the food was great. Do be sure to have local currency to pay in many of the small villages. Many restaurants and stores still do not take credit cards.

What a interesting tour. Our guide Christinewas very knowledgeable about both places and went out of her way to answer questions.

Excellent information from our tour guide. He provided great information not only of the sites but throughout the bus ride. Enjoyed both castle and Rothenburg. Great views and bus was confortable for the road trip. I highly recommended.

Peter was our tour guide and he was great! Very informative from start to finish. We started in Munich and he went through some of the sites we passed. Throughout the trip he would give us info about towns we were passing. Once we got to Harburg Castle the group was split into two. Our guide at the castle had such a great personality. The Castle itself was very interesting to walk through, and before we reached the castle Peter and the bus driver stopped for a few minutes so we could snap a few good pics from far away. We headed more down romantic road and got to Rothenburg (A MUST SEE), and got a guided tour that took about an hour before we split up to do our own thing. Lots to see and do in Rothenburg but felt we had adequate time to do all we wanted to. When you’re there get a Schneeball (snowball...short crust pastry they’re famous for)! It then was a 3 hour bus ride back to Munich without any stopping. We had a great day despite the weather not being the best, and I would do this tour again in a heartbeat!
