Begin your tour at Munich Central Train Station, or with complimentary pickup at your central Munich hotel at a time of your choosing. Let your guide lead the way towards the walkable Munich Old Town, aka Altstadt, the epicenter of Munich’s food scene. Any preferences? Follow your guide into the Viktualienmarkt, the city’s famous open-air food market. The market first opened over 200 years ago ; today, it’s still going strong, offering fresh, high-quality ingredients and ready-to-eat treats.
Once you enter, feast your senses on the dizzying array of food vendors hawking their delectable produce, wine, and spices, among other goods. Your private guide will help you get acquainted with the market, detailing the history of this epicurean hub as you weave your way through a mixed crowd of tourists and locals there to browse some 150 stalls for the best buys.
Your private guide will then introduce you to some classic Bavarian flavors at the market. While you tuck into delicious samples, discover the stories behind the food. Bite into plump weisswurst, a popular minced veal and pork sausage, or taste some obatzda, a gooey camembert-based dip.
After you’ve finished munching on these hearty samples, exit the market and make your way to a traditional restaurant nearby. Sit down and dig into a platter of various Bavarian bites.
