Meet your private guide at Munich Central Station, then set off on foot to get the inside scoop on the city’s famous beer scene. Munich is widely regarded as the beer capital of the world and beer lovers flock here to visit its beer halls, breweries and the world-famous Oktoberfest.
Take a journey into Munich’s past with a tour through the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum. Located in a historical building that dates back to 1345, the museum showcases the history of the Bavarian beer tradition.
Continue your education at a beer hall, where you’ll have the opportunity to taste some local brews (own expense). Alternatively, if the weather is warm, head to one of the city's popular beer gardens instead. Most of Munich’s beers are brewed in accordance with a strict set of purity laws, known as Reinheitsgebot, which ensure the quality of the beverages produced. As you savor your refreshing beer, listen to your guide explain the behind-the-scenes brewing processes that transform hops, malt and water into the tasty drink before you.
Pair your beer with meaty treats from a traditional Bavarian food platter (own expense). Dishes may vary, but typically include weisswurst (minced veal sausage) and Obatzda (a creamy cheese spread).
Follow your guide to Hofbr uhaus, a large state-owned beer hall that dates back to the 16th century. Your tour concludes here, but with beer on tap and live oompah music, you might be compelled to stay here for another stein or two (own expense).
