Meet your expert guide and air-conditioned vehicle outside your centrally located Frankfurt hotel to begin your private 6-hour sightseeing tour of Heidelberg, a picturesque town on the banks of River Neckar in southwest Germany.
Often described as Germany’s most beautiful city, Heidelberg is renowned for its Baroque Old Town, pretty Renaissance buildings and haunting castle ruins. Follow in the footsteps of the romantic poets, most notably Johann Wolfgang van Goethe, and the likes of painter William Turner, and fall in love with this beautiful, red-roofed city.
Your first stop on the tour is at the ruins of Heidelberg Castle. A dramatic feature perched atop the city’s hilly skyline, Heidelberg Castle was once a grand, Gothic masterpiece, before it was plundered and burned by the French army in the 17th century, and then struck by lightning a century later. Stroll across the vast courtyard and explore the ragged yet magnificent terrace. Then, head to the wine cellar with your guide and see, reportedly, the largest wine barrel in the world.
Next, recharge with a freshly made sandwich and coffee before heading back into Heidelberg and taking a walk around the winding lanes of the medieval Old Town. See the charming Old Bridge (Karl Theodor Bridge), the beautiful Church of the Holy Spirit and the statuesque facades of the House of Knight St George.

Absolutely fantastic day trip. Our driver/guide was well informed. It is a really beautiful city and would probably stay a few days next time. The castle tour was exceptional and a must visit on any trip the Heidelberg. Highly recommend this tour for sure.

We have taken day tours through Viator on several occasions in various countries . They have always been wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, our so-called half day tour of Heidelberg was the worst tour I have ever experienced. Our driver picked us up on time at our hotel in Frankfurt. He did not give us his name I had to ask. He made no effort to ask if we were comfortable in the car, despite it was a cold and rainy day. On the hour long drive to Heidelberg, the driver did not provide us with any historical, cultural, or any information about the area where we were traveling. In fact, he spent time on his cell phone talking in German. He did say we were going to the oldest library in Germany. We arrived at the library. He instructed us to go inside, walk around and take picture, that he would wait outside for us. We couldn't figure out what the fascination of this stop was because he provided absolutely no information. Then he drove us to the old town where we could walk around and have a nice lunch. He said he would wait in his car. He did not recommend a restaurant, nor did we have any ideas why we should walk around when every single shop was closed. Also, we had no desire for lunch as it was about 10:30 in the morning. Viator made a huge mistake offering this tour on a Sunday when everything is closed. Being from the USA, I was not aware that Sunday is not a good day to tour in Germany, but our so called tour guide did know as he mentioned this several times.Our driver was not a tour guide at all. He was a driver. He knew nothing about Heidelberg, or showed any interest in talking about this region of Germany. We agreed go back to Frankfurt early as clearly there was nothing to see or do in Heidelberg on a Sunday, and the driver made no effort to ensure that we enjoyed our tour. The supplier for this trip was TOURING TOURS AND TRAVEL. Clearly they have no interest in touring, just driving, and I would advise Viator to never utilize this company again. We are also questioning if we will ever use Viator again. We spent a ridiculous amount of money 665.00 for nothing. On the drive back to Frankfurt, the driver again spent his time on his cell phone. I expect so much more from Viator and hope to get a response. By the way, I have no pictures to post, since there was nothing to take pictures of.

Andreas was a great guide. The castle alone is worth the trip. So much history and the view is amazing.

We had a perfect outing to Heidelberg. Gorgeous and interesting city. We needed to adjust the time of our tour a bit and our preferences were easily accommodated. Really nice to be picked up and dropped off at our hotel and with 6 participants, the cost per person was not much more than the group tour offered.
