In the early evening, head to Fisherman’s Wharf and board a luxury catamaran for your 2-hour wildlife historic cruise with a naturalist guide, rated as one of Victoria’s top activities by TripAdvisor reviewers. Binoculars, gloves, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and blankets all can be found on board.
Enjoy a fast and smooth ride out into the Salish Sea and head toward Esquimalt Harbour. Set eyes on Fort Rodd Hill, a former naval base, and Fisgard Lighthouse, the first lighthouse on Canada’s western coast. As you snap pictures of Fisgard Island’s red-bricked house and white tower, learn the history of both national historic sites from your guide.
At Race Rocks Ecological Reserve, spot a lighthouse on an outcrop and see hundreds of Steller and California sea lions, harbor seals and elephant seals basking in the protected marine reserve. Listen to their grunting, watch them tussle and catch a whiff of their briny scent. Depending on the day, there is some chance of seeing orcas, or humpbacks, or minke whales.
