Killer whales (also known as orcas) migrate to coastal British Columbia between May and October to feed on the salmon that return to the Fraser River to spawn. There are three pods (families) of approximately 80 killer whales that return to the area every year, meaning sightings are almost guaranteed.
The vessels used on this whale-watching tour are open-air or covered high-speed zodiac boats that ensure a smooth and comfortable trip whatever the weather! On your thrilling expedition, you will hear illuminating commentary delivered by professional naturalists, and you’ll see the magnificent orca in its natural habitat. Onboard hydrophones allow you to experience the wild calls of the orcas first hand, and photo ID charts will even help you to identify them. Look out for the orca named Granny, believed to be over 100 years old!
Air-conditioned shuttle transportation is available from nine centrally located pickup points in downtown Vancouver, and free parking is available in Steveston Village for those arriving by car.

Staff was informative. It was a great day out on the water. When you are on the water - you can't really complain. We only saw a couple of humpbacks and a couple of bald eagles - we were hoping to see some orcas. I’ve been on a number of whale watches so I understand you see what you see. What was disappointing is that they say you will be out from 3-5 hours. They started heading back at exactly 2.5 hours. Of that 2.5 hours we spent a half hour looking at a bald eagle. There was no looking for more whales after 2.5 hours. What they should say in their advertising is - if you don’t see many whales we will head back and be gone for exactly 3 hours. It’s the most expensive whale watch I’ve been on. You would think they would make the most of the five hours. This wasn’t my first rodeo - I’ve been on whale watches in Monterey Bay and Morro Bay, California and out of Cape Cod, MA. This whale watch was the most disappointing and I didn’t even see whales on the trip out of Morro bay. That outfit really spent the time and effort to bring a quality experience. This outfit felt like they were moving numbers through their gates and weren’t about providing an experience for each guest. Just disappointed.

It's an amazing experience but must know that the ship could travel very far to catch whales/orcas. Hold tight too !

Overpriced for the amount of time spent on the water. Ellen, our tour guide was wonderful. Very informative and helpful with questions.

Enjoyed cruising along watching Killer Whale family. Environmentalist was very knowledgeable and kept us informed during the whole trip. Glad we were able to have this experience.

We had an amazing time. We took the 9am boat. The shuttle driver was prompt and informative. When you arrive at the office, you'll be given rain gear. Even though it was going to be near 80 for the day, we needed these were glad we wore them. It's cold on the water when you drive around for a while looking for wildlife. The boats communicate with one another, so one there was a humpback sighting, we headed for that. I would guess that for the later boats, you'd get to see whales sooner. We ended up being gone right at 5 hours. Bring your own snacks, especially if you're traveling with kiddos and grandparents and a husband who gets hangry. LOL There's a great deli at the docks that we got sandwiches from. James was our captain and Ellen was our naturalist. Both were fantastic! I highly recommend this tour and would do it again if we visit Vancouver.

We got to see orcas, porpoises, seals and bald egales. Great time, everyone was so nice!! We had prefect weather. Our guide was very informational.

It is really a waste of time and money!
We spent all day long in this activity for almost nothing. They picked us up in a meeting point downtown Vancouver very early and the shuttle took us 1:30h to get into the pier where we would take the boat.
Then the boat trip was about 2:30h trying to find the whales and only at the final stage we could see partially two very far. When we supposed they would get closer or wait more time there, they said the time was over and they needed to get back to the pier for the next excursion. In total, spent 8 hours for nothing.
They gave us a voucher to go again for free, but we would never do all this again.
Save yourself some time and money and go on a trip from Victoria rather than Vancouver. -
This was an absolute highlight of our time in Vancouver.
The pick up was perfect with the driver telling us little bits of information as we drove round to the different hotels. The wildlife was spot on although this out of the control of the tour company so think we were lucky but seeing past the company was professional and did their best to keep you updated as to what was going on with what you were seeing and also give you some history and context to the area. Overall would recommend this.

Excellent tour would highly recommend! Very professional, friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. We booked the pick up bus would recommend this also! Plus we were lucky enough to see a few Whales!
