Your 90-minute tour starts as you board your ‘duck,’ a bus renovated into an amphibious vehicle. Your journey by land and sea covers 38 points of interest, with your driver and marine pilot providing engaging commentary along the way. Below are just some of the places you’ll see. (See the Itinerary section for a complete list of sights.)
(First, stay on land and head to idyllic Vermelha Beach, located in the wealthy residential neighborhood of Urca, and capture stellar views of one of Rio’s famous peaks, Sugar Loaf mountain, towering 1,299 feet (396 meters) high. Drive down the coastal avenues of Botafogo and Flamengo and see downtown Rio before reaching Gloria Marina.
Hold on as you splash into Guanabara Bay. After more views of Sugar Loaf, behold the Christ the Redeemer statue perched on top of Corcovado Mountain, 2,300 feet (700 meters) high. Learn about the art-deco styled statue unveiled in 1931, named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
Cruise through Guanabara Bay and admire serene Flamenco Beach and Tijuca National Park, a rainforest at the edge of the cityscape. Your marine pilot also points out Two Brothers Hill, St John Fort, downtown Nitendi and a host of other landmarks.
After 30 minutes in the water, your duck rolls onto land again. Drive through the lovely greenery of Flamengo Park, home to the Modern Art Museum and Carmen Miranda Museum, and perhaps spot rollerbladers and cyclists gliding beside you.
In southern Rio, explore the traditional district of Botafogo, its beach and cove. Then reach Copacabana, arguably the most famous beach in the world. You’ll also see adjacent Leme Beach and spot the forts of Copacabana and Leme.
