When your cruise ship docks, get to know the island of Antigua by exploring its historical treasures and natural beauty. After pickup from the port, your guide takes you to the following landmarks and provides informative commentary along the way.
At Shirley Heights, in southern Antigua, follow your guide to a lookout and capture a unique panorama of gun emplacements and military buildings from the 18th century, as well as stunning views of English Harbour, where Nelson’s Dockyard National Park is located. Then visit the museum of Dow’s Hills Interpretation Centre, perusing multimedia exhibits tracing the island’s history from first settlement to independence.Continue to Nelson’ Dockyard and learn from your knowledgeable guide about the former British naval base dating back to the 18th century. Walk by the Admiral's Inn, officers’ quarters and other restored buildings, and then enjoy free time to wander about on your own; perhaps stroll by the marina or check out the charming boutiques.
In Pares Village, tour Betty’s Hope, Antigua’s first sugar plantation built in 1674, preserved as a monument to the slaves exploited here. Walk by the ruins of a distillery and two stone mills, one of which has been restored, and listen to historical and insightful commentary about the former sugar mill operation.Hop back in the vehicle and travel through a rainforest on Fig Tree Drive, and enjoy views of fruit trees and rolling green hills, giving you a glimpse into what the island looked like before land was cleared to build plantations. Pass through the southwestern village of Old Road, with Mount Obama (formerly Boggy Peak) looming in the distance, and then head up the western coastline and stop at either Darkwood Beach or Valley Church Beach.
Both beaches offer peaceful alternatives to the bustle of touristic casinos and restaurants found at many other beaches on the island. Take your shoes off and walk in the soft white sand, before heading over to a nearby bar and restaurant, where you’ll enjoy a delicious drink (provided) and admire views of the impossibly blue Caribbean.
After this leisurely stop, your guide takes you back to the port.

Vellie, our tour guide was waiting for us on the pier when we arrived and gave us a brief history of the island before we set off. Turned out there was only the two of us and we soon met up with our driver Joe for a very interesting, informative and personal tour of the island. Had a lovely stop at Nelson's Dockyard where complimentary rum punch was provided. As we were not really "beach" people, a visit to the beach was not included as part of our tour which gave us more time to stop in places of interest to us.
A most enjoyable day with excellent guide and driver. Would thoroughly recommend this tour from both a historical and photographic perspective -
Great tour. Very personal and historical. Our tour guide, Vallee, was great. She was very knowledgeable and provided lots of information about the island. We also had plenty of time at the Docklands and she provided a refreshment for us. Very enjoyable day.

Tour was okay..Tour lady was very nice and gave us a lot of info about island.But we didn't have Bar and drink.Small tour minibus was not good.The Valley Church Beach was so crowded and no shower after swim and I couldn't eat beach restauran that was so dirty..Overall my tour was okay..% 65-70

We left the ship 15 minutes earlier than tour meeting time with the purpose of searching for free Wifi at the port. Once we passed the exit of the port, we already saw our guide Vellie with a sign 'Viator'. Another couple from another ship joined our group of 3. Vellie did a good job briefing us with lots of information about Antigua. Birds' eye views of the island were prettier than Barbados and St. Lucia. At the last stop where complimentary drink was offered, it was lucky that we checked and we were able to enjoy free WiFi.

We were a group of 4, visiting Antigua while on a cruise. Our tour guide Velly was ready and waiting at the pier gate as we got off the ship. She was super knowledgeable about the history of Antigua and had lots of interesting facts for us. Our driver Joe was also great. We got to see the entire island and also had time to enjoy the beach before returning to our ship.
