Next, you'll travel to the world-famous fishing villages of Volendam and Marken, on the coast of the former Zuiderzee (now called Ijselmeer). The old wooden houses here are built on stilts and locals still wear their colorful traditional dresses. Then, take a 20-minute boat trip from Volendam to Marken, with approximately 45 minutes at each stop (summer only). The cruise is optional but is included in the cost of the tour.
During the day you'll also stop at one of the few farms where cheese is still made in the traditional way.
7-Hour tour departing at 12pm
This option was created based on customer feedback to offer an alternative itinerary and longer tour duration. The afternoon tour at 12pm is 7hours in duration. It visits the windmill village of "Zaanse Schans" and the towns of Marken and Volendam. However, this tour gives you more time at all 3 locations.

Enjoy, guides are friendly, the bus comfortable. Too bad, time running fast. Recommed this trip to everybody.

Would have appreciated more time at Zaanse Schans and especially in Volendam ..
Lot of good shops and eateries But absolutely no time . -
My family and I (6 total) really enjoyed the 8:45 tour on Sunday, March 31! We are from various places in the US but meet up for travel and family time across the world. We learned about cheese, clogs and windmills in a serene environment. Ian was a PERFECT tour guide with plenty of info and most importantly...jokes. He made the tour worthwhile! He even stopped at our table as we crossed the canal and told us about his time in Spain and how he came to learn all of his languages. He told us about the beauty of Spain’s beaches and much more.
Equally as charming was Steve!!! On all of the tours we’ve been on, the driver doesn’t interact but Steve was the loveliest of the bunch! He sang on the intercom, told his own variety of jokes and even complimented my cousin’s hairstyle. At the cheese factory he was nice enough to not only take our photo but had us move behind the flowers to get the best shot. I cannot rave enough about the staff here. While the tour itself was nice, these two guys made it the BEST experience we had in Amsterdam!!!

Loved Zaanse Schans and the private tours of the windmills (lumber and oil). Wish we would have had more time to explore Zaanse Schans area (shops and museum). The cheese and clog demonstrations felt more like a sales pitch, would've liked more of the history of Marken and Volendam and cheese and clog making. Overall, great value with the bus, ferry, guided tours, especially if you get the free canal cruise ticket at check-in.

A very nice trip -- windmills, cheese, stroopwaffles, wooden shoes -- bus was plenty comfortable and the guides were very friendly.

The half day tour to Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam was fantastic! The windmills were very interesting and the presenter at the windmill explained the function and procedures used in detail. Marken is where the wooden shoe demonstration took place. Also a very interesting demonstration and the gift shop offered all types of goods. Volendam was the seaside town where the cheese making demonstration took place which was interesting. The guides suggested a restaurant and it was fantastic! The food was simply delicious. There were many shops in Volendam and I personally would love to go back to this little seaside town someday. Juan, our head tour guide, was fabulous! He was informative and very clear in his instructions. The other two guides were also very helpful and very friendly. I would highly recommend this tour. I thought it was money well worth spent!

We had a great time and would recommend this trip, it is a bit of a tourist trap but you do learn about Amsterdam. Great team effort with our tour guides

Tour was not bad, my wife and I had a fantastic time as it was educational and fun. I am not complaining just simply informing people who are considering this tour. It feels very rushed at each stop. You spend maybe an hour max at the windmills. This may seem like a long time but it’s barely enough time to see one windmill. It is the same for the other two stops but since I predominantly took the tour to see the windmills, I did not mind so much. Additionally, the entire tour was translated into Spanish and I mean e-n-t-i-r-e. Just stating facts. Finally, it is a very large tour group. They fill up a double decker bus so at times it is difficult to move about when visiting the stops, also coupled with Europeans/Foreginers sense of space, it can be a little frustrating with all the pushing and shoving to view the attractions so put on your patience cap. As far as the guides go, they were great and did a good job conveying information. Half of the time spent on the bus you are listening to an audio guide through headphones. Once again, nothing wrong with that but I want people who are considering this tour to know these details. Also there is not really any information on how to get to the tour pickup location, which is in the back of the Asterdam Centraal station. All in all a great cultural experience, which could be better with some refinement and attention to details.

We only spent 1 hour for windmills in Zaanse Schans. The rest of the tours we were brought to cheese, cookies and wooden shoes factory. We did not have any free time to walk around in Volendam and Marken. We did not have the chance / time to choose the restaurant that we want for lunch because the tour guide directed us to a particular restaurant for lunch. This is just waste of time
