Meet your guide near Dam Amsterdam’s central square and then set off on your walking tour of Amsterdam’s medieval center. While strolling around the pretty cobblestone streets at a gentle pace, your guide will entertain you with fun facts about the charismatic city and its Golden Age heyday.
The city’s period of prosperity covered the 17th century, when Dutch ships controlled most of the sea trade around Europe almost monopolizing the fishing industry in the North Sea. At one point the country had more merchant ships than other European countries combined, and Amsterdam became a key trade city for transporting goods via its network of canals.
Stroll around the canal belt, seeing places of interest relating to the Golden Age, as well as Amsterdam attractions like the Old Church (Oude Kerk) and Amsterdam Museum housed in a beautiful civic building.
After exploring, head inside a traditional cheese shop to learn about cheese production in the city, and, of course, to sample the wares! Enjoy a selection of artisan cheeses along with a glass of wine to complement the flavors. Your tour finishes here, but you can stay longer if you wish to shop for cheese and explore the shop.
Tour and Cruise:
Upgrade to include a canal cruise ticket with your tour, and see Amsterdam’s countless sights from the water. Your canal ticket will be given to you after your walking tour finishes, and it can be enjoyed on any date (not necessarily on the day of your tour). I thought our guide was great with us. He walked at our speed and knew the area. I left feeling like I saw Amsterdam which is what we were looking for. The only down side is when it came to the cheese tasting is was very disorganized as the shop was not expecting us and actually stated that they were not doing this any more. They made an effort but we felt like we were putting them out so we left. We did find the shop later in our trip and I will have to say it's not a friendly shop. So I would recommend finding a different location if you are going to continue with this portion of the tour. We would have liked it but it didn't distract from our overall experience with our guide and the tour of Amsterdam. I would go again.

A really worthwhile tour with Fatima, a very helpful guide who gave an unhurried and informative tour of the city. Set us up beautifully for our stay and I thoroughly recommend it.
