Meet your local guide by the statue of Queen Isabel of Castile and Christopher Columbus, then set off on a short stroll to Granada Cathedral and the Royal Chapel (Capilla Real).As you walk along the charming streets of Granada’s historical center, listen to your guide talk about the city’s rich history. Having started its existence as an Iberian hamlet, the city was then ruled successively by the Moors (Muslims of North African descent) and Christians ─ both of whom stamped their architectural mark on Granada.On arrival, marvel at these two impressive landmarks that sit side by side. Have your camera ready as you take in the flamboyant Isabelline architecture of the Royal Chapel, and be awed by the towering grandeur of the cathedral.Hear how the cathedral is considered to be the very first Renaissance church in all of Spain, then head inside for a glimpse of its equally impressive interior. Admire the pristine white and gold d□cor as you follow your guide down the uninterrupted nave to the altar. As you stroll, discover the reasoning behind the fa ade remaining incomplete, with only one of the two planned towers having been built.Next, exit the main cathedral and make your way to the Royal Chapel. Discover how Ferdinand and Isabel commissioned the chapel as their mausoleum.
