Imagine the steps and path that the fishermen of Taormina have used everyday since the beginning of the century to reach their typical wooden boats and begin a hard day of work.
Today it is possible to follow in their footsteps thanks to this small-group fishing tour.
Meet the tour leader in central Taormina and head to the Isola Bella nature reserve.
The tour begins with a stroll through the Parco Duca di Cesar□, past the Byzantine tombs, then continuing on to enjoy a brief stop on the Belvedere terrace - giving you the chance to enjoy the breath taking views of eastern Sicily and the majestic backdrop of Etna. You will then descend the characteristic and panoramic flight of steps that lead to one of the most renowned places in Taormina - Isola Bella - defined the Pearl of the Mediterranean by the famous German baron Wilhelm von Gloeden.
The local fisherman at the Isola Bella nature reserve will give you some insight into the life of the local fishermen, showing you the tools used everyday to catch the local fish.
After a fascinating visit to the Grotta Azzurra and bays of Taormina in a typically Sicilian wooden fishing boat you will stop at a local fishing spot. Here you will learn to fish like the true Sicilian fishermen and locals who regularly enjoy this past time.
Get ready to get your hands dirty preparing the bait, and feel the lines tug as you hook some local delicacies. On board you may help yourself to mineral water, seasonal fresh fruit, and before returning to Isola Bella you will embrace another Sicilian tradition - the 'aperitivo'.
