Leave central Taormina in the morning and travel south along the coast to Syracuse, on the southeastern corner of Sicily. After relaxing in the comfort of your air-conditioned coach on your 1.5-hour journey, hop off and head out to explore the city with your guide!
First stop is Parco Archeologico della Neapolis, Syracuse’s famous archeological zone that’s home to a vast collection of Greek and Roman ruins from all over Sicily. After paying your entrance fee, head inside to see impressive excavations and well-preserved monuments like a Greek theater, Roman amphitheater and the Ear of Dionysius an artificial limestone cave. Learn about fascinating structures like the Altar of Hieron II, where bulls were once sacrificed during ancient festivals, and hear tales of Syracuse in bygone days.
Leave the archeological zone and head over to the island neighborhood Ortygia, where most of Syracuse’s fascinating sights can be seen. Enjoy a break for lunch (own expense) and then explore the local attractions, discovering Piazza Archimede, a lively square that’s home to the Fountain of Aretusa a carving of the Greek goddess’ maiden.
Gaze at the square’s Gothic palaces and then continue your stroll around the area to discover the delights of Piazza del Duomo Syracuse’s central square. Pose for photos in front of Syracuse Cathedral, and admire at the squares other attractions: 17th-century Archbishop’s Palace, the Palace of Beneventano del Bosco and Il Lucertolone the City Hall.
After exploring Ortygia and learning about the city’s history and sights, return to your coach for the journey north. Your tour then finishes back at the start point in central Taormina.行程概要出發地點

Copious amount of information given in the blazing sun after having received a long narration in two different language's on the bus made for a hot and very tiring day.

I wanted to go to Syracuse and Ortygia on our own but it was actually less expensive to book this tour than to find transport from Taormina. The archaeological park was a bit of a disappointment since they are covering the Greek Theatre completely for a series of plays between May and July. So it was more like visiting a construction site. The guide provided at the park was excellent though. Ortygia was the highlight of this trip and fortunately you are left on your own for it. Don't miss lunch in the food market.
The tour had mostly Germans 2/3 and the rest English. English is very much an after thought. I was also surprised when the tour guide on the bus pointed out the military airfield and said to the Germans 'this is where the Americans and French bomb Syria from but then said in English something more pithy this is the military airfield, Americans use it. It did seem judgmental. Another American on the bus called him out on it.

Viator processed our booking very quickly and provided the tour services as expected - thank you.
Our tour guides, on the coach and for the sights at Syracuse were both excellent.
I have given 4 stars only because the Greek Theatre was subject to protective building works in preparation for summer performances. The sight of 2 cement mixers and wood-working kind of detracted from the magnificence of this wonderful place.
We loved the Roman Amphitheatre, and the Temple of Atehna.
All in all, we had a great day out. Cheers. -
A great day out!
We managed to see the highlights of the city, loved the archeological site with the ancient Greek theater and Dionisius ear.
Our guide, Alfredo, was outstanding and most informative, he is a professional. We met him again in summer 2017 as he guided us through other trips to Agrigento and Noto and it was a delight.
Grazie Viator and Grazie, Alfredo!
Highly recommended trip! -
everything went well, ortygia is very nice!

The Syracuse Tour involves a great deal of walking to very little effect the Greek and Roman amphitheaters are not spectacular the Ear of Dionysius, on the other hand, is, and the long walk round Ortygia has little of interest except perhaps the cathedral the lunch at a restaurant recommended by the guide verged on the disgusting - it is not included in the price so go anywhere else altogether a dull tour with a mediocre guide - a tour with too few highlights to justify the boredom and the endless walking...

Lovely tour

This was an excellent trip! I was very impressed by our tour guide and the driver was the best I've had. This walking tour allowed us to see all the sites of Siracusa. My only issue was that we didn't spend any time climbing around the Greek theater, but stayed on the outskirts above and below. I felt a little rushed as we passed through some of the areas, but it was a beautiful city and the guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and gave the tour in 2 languages the whole way through. Impressive!

Nice tour, good guide. Enjoyed the sights.

The trip was taken in early October 2017. From Taormina, it is a full, rich and wonderful day. The ancient sights are tremendous but our guide for the Cathedral, Enza, was outstanding. Her ability to share her extensive knowledge was a highlight. Rich S.
