You will visit five of the most historically significant churches in Rome's centro storico, starting beside the Patriarchal Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and finishing on Piazza della Rotonda (Pantheon), where you can sit down and relax in a particularly beautiful part of ancient Rome where time seems to have stood still for two millennia and more. World-renowned art and sculpture by such luminaries as Bernini, Lippi, and Michelangelo will captivate, each and every church a treasure chest of precious creations. Relics in these churches are common, and many believers thought they originated from the True Cross or other structure relating to the flogging and crucifixion of Jesus in Jerusalem. They were, however, part of a booming medieval trade in fake artefacts.
Churches of Rome traverses the historic heart of Rome, so you will benefit from taking a tour within a tour.
