During your two-hour lesson, your gladiator instructor will teach you how to fight with authentic weapons used by the gladiators of ancient Rome. Lessons are organized and led by members of the Historic Group of Rome who specialize in the re-enactment of Roman life and gladiatorial combat.
Don't miss this opportunity to re-create Roman history and life as a gladiator. Dressed in a traditional gladiator tunic, belt, leather protective glove and rudis (training sword), you can let your imagination run wild as you play like Spartacus for a day, fighting off ferocious lions and sword-wielding warriors!
Next, learn the basic techniques of gladiatorial sword fighting and take part in an optional gladiatorial tournament, with the winner receiving a victory prize. All participants receive a certificate of accomplishment.
If you're fascinated by Roman Gladiators but not sure if you're up for it, you can choose to watch friends or family free of charge. There's a great viewing platform.

so much fun - especially if you take the Kid at Heart attitude! Plus there is a little bit of a history lesson some physical training and the chance to legitimately take a swing at your partner!

Lots of fun for the kids its not really for adults, and the instructor was great with them. The accompanying small museum they have helps put it all in context

We were so excited for this experience based on all the amazing reviews we'd read here. While I do think it was the potential to be an incredible experience, it fell quite short for our family because it was SO over crowded. There were at least 30 participants in the session and only one instructor. The museam tour was way too crowded and many people just skipped it and stood outside because they couldn't hear or see anything because of the size of the group. The adult partcipants didn't even get to do the first part of the class the warm ups and drills despite paying the same price as the kids. Then during the instruction it was kind of a free for all. At the end, each participant got to do a quick 1x1 battle with another participant usually siblings and at that point they finally had the attention of the instructor and really got to learn some things. A big dissapointment considering how much the experience costs and how excited we were about doing it.
Would not recommend.

This was a lot of fun with kids. The instructor was very nice and full of interesting facts.

We had a great time. My two pre-teen boys and I took the class and had a lot of fun. This was the perfect thing for the kids in between site seeing and museums. The first part of the school was very informative and then the interactive part was fun and informative as well. It is a little pricey but worth in in the end.

A history lesson and a great work out all in one! We learned about the history of gladiators in ancient Rome, got to see and handle the weapons and armor, and then spent an hour training like real gladiators including sparring with wooden gladius swords. Overall a lot of fun!
One FYI - if you are in central Rome you'll need to take a taxi to the school, and the school will call a taxi to take you back to Rome.

My 6 year old son says this tour was the highlight of his entire trip! The historical background was interesting, and the training was great. It was really fun for the whole family, but I would caution that some of the content/language sexual innuendo was a little inappropriate for kids under 10. We did not let it get in the way of our fun, and I think most of it went over the kids' heads, but it is worth noting. Also, take bug spray!! This was the only place in Rome where we received many bug bites.
