Make your own way to La Torre Vecchia restaurant in central Rome where your cooking class will take place. Situated in the quintessentially Roman neighborhood of Testaccio, the restaurant is a stone’s throw from the picturesque banks of the Tiber River.
Once inside, meet the restaurant’s pizzaiolo. Take a seat nearby to watch the pizza-making magic happen as the kids step up to the large wooden table, complete with bowls of delicious toppings and sauce, and begin their lesson. Watch in delight as they don their aprons and get creative, personalizing their very own chef hats. Before they get started on the important task of preparing food, listen to the pizzaiolo to learn about the history of pizza and maybe join in as a song or two is sung in the kitchen.
Following the lead of the pizzaiolo, the kids learn how to measure, mix, knead and roll out their own dough. Then, it’s time to spread the homemade sauce onto the base and select their favorite toppings. While the pizza-making is taking place, relax and enjoy a traditional feast of antipasti with local cheese, cured meat, bruschetta and wine. After the pizza is cooked, the little chefs will sit down with you to sample their creations while you enjoy a pizza of your own choice. See the Itinerary for a sample menu.
After dinner, the kids will try some tasty Italian gelato whilst you enjoy a taste of a different type of traditional dessert. When full, be sure to grab a step-by-step pizza-making guide so the whole family can recreate the pizzas back at home. You will also receive a family friendly guide to Rome with tips on fun activities, dining and shopping.
