Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio had a truly film-worth lifestyle. He lived fast, died young and his heritage is priceless. Being known for his transitions from light to dark with almost no intermediate colours, Caravaggio created a one of a kind style by combining this technique with the Baroque naturalism.
Start at Piazza del Popolo, there the group will get together in order to visit our first stop, the Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo. Inside this magnificent church lies the Cerasi Chapel, home of Caravaggio’s and Carracci’s art: two of the most important references of Baroque art.
From there we’ll head south through Via di Ripetta to the Church of Saint Louis of the French and visit the Contarelli Chapel. Inside the Chapel three beautiful paintings hang on the wall describing the life of Saint Matthew the Evangelist.
A few steps separates us from the third and last stop, the Church of Saint Augustine and the glorious “Pilgrim’s Madonna”.
