The Capo Market is the best and traditional old market in Palermo. Here you find only local fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. Here we stop to taste the street food of Palermo.

Quattro Canti, or Vigliena square, is the name of the octagonal square in the intersection between the two most important streets in Palermo: via Maqueda and Cassaro (corso Vittorio Emanuele). Ancients sources refers about it as “Octagon” or “Sun’s Theatre”, because during the daylight almost one of the fa ades is lighten by the sun. The “Four Corners” were realized from 1609 until 1620. The shape of the square is an octagon and it’s placed in the middle of the ancient city as a perfect point of connection between the four most important districts of that period which are: Kalsa, La Loggia, Capo e Albergheria. The four fa ades of the buildings have four different levels. In the lowest one it is possible to see the fountains as the symbols of the four old Palermo’s main rivers: Oreto, Kemonia, Pannaria, Papireto; in the next level are shown the allegories of the four seasons represented by Eolo, Venus, Cerere and Bacchus; the middle part is decorated by the statues of Carlo V, Filippo II, Filippo III, Filippo IV; and in the last order there are the illustration of the four saints of Palermo before the arrival of Saint Rosalia (1624): Agata, Ninfa, Oliva e Cristina.

The Cathedral of Palermo is the most important monument of the “Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedrals of Cefal□ and Monreale” site inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO on 2015.
The Cathedral of Palermo was founded by Gualtiero Offamilio, archbishop of the town from 1169 to 1190. It was a mosque in Islamic times and converted into a cathedral church by Roberto the Guiscardo after the conquest of Palermo. Its exclusive elements are the inlays and the architectural and sculptural plastic that reflects the penetration of Romanic art and the first Gothic decorative taste in Sicily.

It is a monumental fountain of Palermo. It is located in the heart of the historic centre and represents the most important landmark of Piazza Pretoria. The fountain was built in Palermo in 1574.

Officially known as Piazza Vigliena, is a Baroque square. It was built during the XVII century at the crossing of the two principal streets in Palermo, the Via Maqueda and the Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

This was great, we got to see a lot to Palermo by foot, highly recommend if you want to see the city.

We were fortunate to be the only ones on the street food tour for the day so Manuela was able to give us a private tour of Palermo. She was very knowledgeable of the history of the area, the buildings, and the street food. A great tour for the first day In Palermo. I would recommend her and the tour to anyone.

The only reason this tour didn't receive 5 stars is because the style of our guide left us wondering if she loved her city or if this was a job. We love to 'experience' a place walking and tasting and she delivered on this in a big way. The local market was certainly a highlight and the breakfast pizza was the perfect way to get started.

Manuela was so nice and knowledgable about Palermo. I could tell she was so passionate about the history and culture. She also made great restaurant and museum recommendations. I really enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see the city and eat great food!

This was NOT what we expected. We did the Sunday morning tour and our guide, Valentina, was very good. As a cultural tour it was excellent but forget the street food thing and you will definitely need to have breakfast before you go. Although we were taken through the wonderful markets all we got to have was a very small sampling of panelli, a tiny square of pizza, one very good arancino and some flat bread - that was it apart from a very small cannolo at the end of our tour. No opportunity offered for the glass of wine, beer or water and our guide was non-plussed when we asked what happened to that option. The coffee stop was definitely not included either. This tour was not value for money and don't go there expecting a great food experience.

A really good tour and our guide Manulla was very knowledgable and explained all aspects very clearly. The food we tasted from the street market to the high end shops gave us a good insight to the culinary delights of this vibrant city. Also the history of the old city and some of the iconic buildings made this tour memorable.

We had 2 guides and at times I felt like they were more interested in talking to each other than us. I also wish we were able to try more of the fruits and vegetables in the market. Sicilian food is great and of course nothing on the tour was bad! I also liked that we took a walk around town a bit and got a little history with our food.

Our guides were Stafani and Fabrizio and they were absolutely wonderful. They took an interest in everyone in the group. We walked the streets and learned of Palermo history and culture as we strolled. Our first stop was the street market where the sights, sounds and smell where amazing! We tasting many amazing types of Sicilian food that made your mouth water with explanations of how is is prepared and how the food is specific to the region. During our walk we went into many histoic landmarks with very descriptive explanations on how they were built based on the varying cultures that occupied Sicily in previous times.

We only visited the Capo Market, but got to taste and learn about a lot of the traditional foods and the Arabic influences. If you take a morning tour you may want to skip breakfast as we ate 1/2 hour into our tour. Not only did we learn about food but we continued walking around Palermo leaning about the neighborhoods, cultures and toured a few churches including the Cathedral. This was way more than a food walking tour, we were so happy to have a guide as we saw many of the important sites. Highly recommend!
