Stop At: Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence, Tuscany
Chianti wine tour and landscapes. Experience an unforgettable day trip in the Chianti region with amazing scenery, fun facts about the Italian cooking habits, stops in the cities of San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Siena, and a visit to a winery to learn something about Classico and drink lots of good wine. A small group tour lets you save money by sharing a Black Mercedes Minivan (8 pax max). Piazzale Michelangelo (Michelangelo Square) is a square with a panoramic view of Florence, Italy, located in the Oltrarno district of the city. This Florentine piazza was designed by architect Giuseppe Poggi and built in 1869 on a hill just south of the historic center, during the redevelopment of Oltrarno, the left (South) bank of the Arno river. In 1869, Florence was the capital of Italy and the whole city was involved in an urban renewal, the so-called "Risanamento" or the "Renovation" of the city's neighborhoods. Lungarni (riverside walkways; "lungarno", singular) were built on the riversides. On the right bank, the fourteenth-century city walls were removed and turned into the Viali di Circonvallazione, mimicking the French "boulevard" design, six lanes wide and lined with trees. On the left bank winding up the hill of San Miniato the Viale dei Colli was built, a tree-lined street over 8 kilometers long ending at the Piazzale Michelangelo which was built as a terrace with a panoramic view of the city.
Bronze cast of David facing Florence from the center of the square
The square, dedicated to the Renaissance sculptor Michelangelo, has bronze copies of some of his marble works found elsewhere in Florence: the David and the four allegories of the Medici Chapel of San Lorenzo. The monument was brought up by nine pairs of oxen on 25 June 1873.
Poggi designed the loggia in the neoclassical-style that dominates the whole terrace, which today houses a restaurant. Originally it was intended to house a museum of works by Michelangelo, never realized. In the wall of the balcony, under the loggia, there is an epigraph in capital letters referring to his work: Poggi turned this into his monument in 1911.
The view captures the heart of Florence from Forte Belvedere to Santa Croce, across the lungarni and the bridges crossing the Arno, including the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, the Bargello and the octagonal bell tower of the Badia Fiorentina. Beyond the city are the hills of Settignano and Fiesole
Duration: 10 minutes
Stop At: Historic Centre of San Gimignano, San Gimignano, Tuscany
Your day trip takes you through the picturesque countryside of the Chianti region, a magical landscape of cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves you should recognize from Renaissance paintings. You will be picked up at your hotel and driven through the countryside of Florence.
You will first go to San Gimignano, where you will have about 30 minutes of free time. It is famous for its many towers or the many Vernaccia wine bottles if you prefer. It served as an important relay point for pilgrims traveling to or from Rome on the Via Francigena. The patrician families who controlled the town built around 72 tower-houses as symbols of their wealth and power. Although only 14 have survived, San Gimignano has retained its feudal atmosphere and appearance.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Piazza del Campo, Siena, Tuscany
You will then reach the famous Palio city, Siena, around 12pm. Free time. Located in the heart of Tuscany, this is Italy s best preserved medieval city and once was a wealthy, war-like independent state during the Middle Ages. Siena stores offer many locally made items, such as leather products, neckties, fabrics, glazed terracotta, gold jewellery, and of course local food, such as, Panforte, Ricciarelli, Pici and many wines. Every Wednesday morning a huge market is held around the Fortezza Mediceana. Here you will have time to look around and have lunch if you are hungry.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Monteriggioni, Monteriggioni, Tuscany
your third stop in the beautiful castle of Monteriggioni where you will have a half hour free time to walk around. Sitting on a small natural hillock, this completely walled medieval town in the Siena Province of Tuscany was built in the 13th century by the overlords of Siena to command the Cassia Road running through the Val d’Elsa and Val Staggia just to the west of Monteriggioni.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Cerbaia
An Organic, family running, Farm situated in the heart of the Chianti region just 20 km from the city of Florence, with a variety of chianti italy wine such as Chianti Colli Fiorentini Docg wine and extra virgin olive oil. All of these products are authentic specialties and are a result of 100% organic farming.
You can spend a pleasant time relaxing and enjoying fine wines along with salami, and one of the best olive oil (Laudemio). At the end of your day, you will be brought back to the departure point.

We could not have enjoyed our day more! Our driver was knowledgeable and friendly. The three stops were perfect, broke up the ride so we never felt we were in the car too long. We were lucky to be joined by a nice couple as well. The winery was lovely. It was a beautiful day!

Book this tour!!! This was one of my favorite days of our whole two week trip through Italy and Greece. Our tour guide, Daniel, was AMAZING. He was friendly, entertaining, and shared a lot of good information. The van was very comfortable. Daniel also gave us each an iPad with service so that we could use maps and find out way around the towns. We were in San Gimignano for an hour, Sienna for 1.5/2 hours, and Monteriggioni for only 20 minutes we were running a bit late and needed to by at the winery by a certain time. This was not a big deal because the town was tiny - just enough time to get some great pictures and head to have some great wine. Apparently there are 2 different wineries you could visit depending on availability - if you are able to go to San Michele A Torri then you get to go to the less touristy one. Great wine and beautiful location. All in all this was a fantastic tour and we would recommend!
-
Very comfortable drive with small group and fabulous guide Daniel. Couldn't fault it. Really glad we booked the tour - definitely a highlight of our Italy trip.
-
We loved our tour with Luca! This was probably our favorite day of our entire 10 day trip to Italy. Everything was organized but you didn't feel rushed throughout the day.
-
for starters the mercedes sedan is not comfortable for 8 people sitting 3 beside.driver was not informative during the drive and not helpful suggesting restaurants in siena.did not appreciate being shunted to tourist restaurants in the siena main square.finally winery did not offer any tour to vinyard or celler.driver was pleasant and was kind enough to drop us off by our apt.in summation have been on better tours from previous visits.this was the priciest of all the tours i have taken out of florence with the least value for the money spent.

This might have been my favorite day of my two weeks in Italy. We asked our tour guide Luca just about everything about Tuscany, and there was not a topic he couldn't cover. Beautiful hill towns and the amazing Casa Emma winery. Loved everything about this day!

This was a wonderful way to see some of Tuscany and visit Siena. Our tour guide was, personalble, knowledgable and entertaining. We were part of very small group and felt that all got very personal attention. The wine tasting and tour of the winery was great. And the wine, snacks more like a small meal were wonderful as was the hostess at the winery. Would recommend it to friends and family and will when any of them visit Florence.

Such a fantastic tour. It gives you pleasure of being able to explore on your own and before each destination the driver gives you education and knowledge of area on not only what to see but also it's history. Our driver, Danny was excellent. If you get him, you're in great hands.

Daniel was a gentleman and a great host, introducing us to the Tuscan region. He had great recommendations at each stop and even better recommendations outside of the trip as well. Lovely adventure, introducing the three towns and a winery. Unfortunatethe wine tour was shortened due to harvest.

This was truly the highlight of our trip to Florence! We debated between this and a winery tour, but we couldnt be happier with our decision to go with this tour. We had free time to explore three beautiful cities in Tuscany, along with a winery visit the best of both worlds and the gorgeous scenery and views throughout the trip were just breathtaking. We couldnt have asked for a better tour guide and driver, either. Lucca was just wonderful extremely knowledge and friendly just a great all-around guy. I also really appreciated the text messages that I received leading up to and the day of the tour with reminders and helpful information. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Florence!!!
