Meet your guide at the Bari port cruise Terminal and relax in a private vehicle going North to Trani via a scenic journey across olive trees and a stunning coastline. While walking in the Old Town, you will breathe the atmosphere of this busy and bustling commercial town with deep origins in the maritime tradition. Trani is a charming city whose ancient and recent history is engraved in the beautiful monuments dating back to the Middle Ages: it is the town of S. Nicola “the Pilgrim”, the town of Federico II as well as the town of the Jewish district and of the imposing Swabian Castle overlooking the sea.Afterwards you can admire the stunning Cathedral (dedicated to S. Nicola Pellegrino) overlooking the sea and representing one of the finest examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture, inside are preserved the revered relics of S. Nicola. A pleasant walk will take you to discover the narrow alleys of the old town. Second stop is Bisceglie, where you can start a guided exploration in a traditional olive oil Mill set in a 19th-century building. The family owner of this farm will welcome you into the elegant show-room and tasting halls, leading you to the discovery of olive oils ranging from the DOP Terra di Bari olive oil to biologic and aromatic olive oils. The half an hour visit will show you the process leading from the olives to the extra virgin oil, the traditional and modern working techniques and the organic production, just recently introduced. A short video dedicated to the production of olive oil will give you the opportunity to appreciate the annual production cycle, regardless of the season when making the visit.
The tasting includes a selection of traditional and flavored olive oils (lemon, hot chili pepper, basil, garlic or truffle for strong-flavor lovers) with local bread and preserves, always produced in the mill, olives and a glass of wine from Apulia wine cellars. After the tasting, you will have the opportunity to indulge in retail shopping therapy at the store: various types of traditional and aromatized oils, preserves, sweet and savory food, pickled olives, jams, pickles, preserved vegetables oil, pasta handmade craftsmanship, the finest wines from the cellars of Puglia, handmade pottery, wonderful hand painted ceramic dishes and local craft. Furthermore, you will find a special service dedicated to overseas and international buyers: through a reliable FedEx courier service, you may require the shipment of all items purchased directly to your home address at a favorable rate, without worries about how to carry home delights you have purchased.
