Day 1: Strasbourg (L)
Meet your guide at Place des Halles in central Strasbourg at midday, and head first to a local restaurant specializing in dishes from the Alsace region. Chat with your fellow travelers over lunch (see sample menu below), and gain insight into the region's cuisine from your knowledgeable guide. Strasbourg sits on the border between France and Germany and the cross-cultural influences are strong, especially in the local food.
Follow lunch with a city tour to learn of Strasbourg's fascinating culture, history and heritage. Marvel at the architecture of Strasbourg Cathedral, the charm of the German district and the crisscrossed lanes and canals of Petite France, the French quarter. The exact route of the tour may change from day to day, but your guide will be sure to show you some of the city's most interesting and notable sights.
Afterward, enjoy free time to explore at your leisure. The highlight of Strasbourg this time of year is the famous Christmas market (Christkindelsm rik), one of the oldest and most traditional in Europe, dating back to the 1500s. Here local vendors sell unique handcrafted wares. Wander among the many stalls as you please, with a cup of hot mulled wine in hand. Soak up the wonderful Christmas lights, decorations and music as you shop for one-of-a-kind souvenirs for friends and family, and perhaps enjoy other activities such as ice skating.
Have dinner on your own and either head out to sample the city’s vibrant nightlife or return to your hotel to prepare for the next day's travel.

Day 2: Strasbourg Ch teau du Haut-KSnigsbourg Colmar Strasbourg (B)
Following a buffet breakfast at your hotel, board a coach and drive out along the famous Alsace Wine Route (Route des Vins d'Alsace). This 105-mile (170-km) road runs through the green foothills of the Vosges mountains, bordering Germany, past row after row of Alsatian vineyards and quaint red-roofed villages.
Arrive at Ch teau du Haut-KSnigsbourg, a 12th-century hilltop castle overlooking the Upper Rhine Plain. The fortress has been a site of strategic importance since the Middle Ages, and today offers a wonderful insight into the area’s history. Perhaps pick up an audio guide as you head inside. Learn of the castle's pivotal importance in centuries passed, and take in breathtaking views over the Vosges mountains and Alsatian plains from the castle ramparts.
Continue driving along the Alsace Wine Route to Colmar, one of the region's star cities with a long history of wine production. Explore the pretty streets of Old Town at your leisure, pausing to pop into local shops and capture the mesmerizing half-timbered architecture on camera.
Hop back on the coach for your return journey to Strasbourg. Arrive at the original departure point or Gare de Strasbourg, the city's main train station.
