    產品介紹

As you travel through the idyllic French and Belgian countryside on this 4-day trip, it can be hard to imagine the bloodshed that once took place there. This moving 4-day trip brings home the enormous cost of war. As you visit battlefields and memorials, your knowledgeable guide puts the sites you see into historical context. With three nights of accommodations included, this historical adventure allows you to follow in the footsteps of brave soldiers who fought and died 100 years ago.
Please see the Itinerary below for details on each day of the tour.
DAY 1 - FROM PARIS TO YPRES BATTLEFIELDS AND LILLE.
Depart Le M□ridien Etoile, at 09:00 bound for Flanders Fields. Visit the Ypres Salient battlefields, including Hill 60, Polygon Wood, the Passchendaele Memorial and Tyne Cot Cemetery. In the town of Ypres, hear the Last Post sounded at the Menin Gate. Continue to your hotel and join your Travel Director for a Welcome Drink.
DAY 2 - TIME FOR REFLECTION AT FROMELLES AND VIMY RIDGE, THEN ONTO AMIENS.
See the Australian cemetery of Fromelles, before continuing to the Canadian National Memorial at Vimy Ridge. Take in a visit to the trenches preserved just as they were during the Great War with a Local Expert, who tells stories of battles that raged the now silent pastures. Continue to Amiens and perhaps visit the impressive cathedral?
DAY 3 - (RELAXED START) THE BATTLEFIELDS OF THE SOMME.
Meet your Local Expert to explore the key battlefields of the Somme. Visit the Lochnagar Crater, the South African and New Zealand Memorials at Longueval, Newfoundland Memorial and Museum and the Franco-British Memorial at Thiepval. Enjoy a lunch stop in Albert to see the church. Afterwards, explore Beaumont-Hamel on the way back to Amiens where you will have the afternoon at leisure. Maybe do a little shopping or spend some time in the historic Saint-Leu district?
DAY 4 - RETURN TO PARIS.
Visit the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux and the Franco-Australian Museum in the local Victoria School. Stop to explore Le Hamel and then continue to P□ronne. On return to Paris, a stop is made at Charles De Gaulle Airport. For those departing in the evening, please do not schedule flights before 19:00. Alternatively the coach will drop you at Le M□ridien Etoile.

    行程介紹

    Day 1: Paris Lille
Leave central Paris and travel by air-conditioned coach to Flanders Fields in Belgium as your guide gives you historical background on the locations you will visit. See important Ypres Salient Battlefields including Hill 60, Polygon Wood and the site that today is occupied by Tyne Cot Cemetery. The tragic toll of war becomes apparent as you walk among the seemingly endless rows of white grave markers.

After some free time in the town of Ypres to have dinner (own expense), meet your guide for an included welcome drink. Then attend the nightly Last Post ceremony at Menin Gate in Ypres that honors those who died defending the town. Make your way to your hotel for the night in Lille, France.

Overnight: Mercure Lille Centre Grand Place Hotel

    Day 2: Lille Amiens (B)
Enjoy breakfast in your hotel and then cross into northern France to the Fromelles Military Cemetery, where Australian and British soldiers who perished in the 1916 Battle of Fromelles are buried. Your next stop is the Canadian National Memorial at Vimy Ridge, a towering and distinctive monument to Canadian forces lost during the war. Take a guided tour of the museum and the nearby trenches to learn about Canada's involvement in the Great War.

Continue to Amiens, site of the 1918 Battle of Amiens, which led to the end of the war. During your free time, have dinner in a local restaurant (own expense) and perhaps visit Amiens Cathedral, a gorgeous 13th-century Gothic cathedral that is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Settle in for the night at your hotel in Amiens.

    Overnight: Mercure Amiens Cathedrale Hotel

    Day 3: Amiens (B)
After breakfast this morning, travel along the Circuit of Remembrance, which passes through pivotal battlefields of the Somme -- an area of northern France that today seems serene. Marvel at the huge Lochnagar Crater, left by a tremendous explosion right before the 1916 Battle of the Somme. Soldiers packed mining tunnels with explosives to create the massive blast, which killed many German troops and resulted in a 300-foot (91-meter) wide hole. Imagine how the ground erupted long ago at this site, creating one of the loudest man-made sounds in recorded history.

You will also see the South African and New Zealand Memorials at Longueval and the Franco British Memorial at Thievpal dedicated to thousands of missing soldiers. Make a stop for lunch (own expense) in Albert, where you will see the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Brebi□res, which was once topped with a golden statue of Mary and baby Jesus that was the subject of many legends during the war.

Stop at the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial and museum on your way back to Amiens, where you'll have the afternoon to spend at leisure. Walk around the historic Saint-Leu district or do some shopping before having dinner (own expense) and settling in for the night.

    Overnight: Mercure Amiens Cathedrale Hotel

    Day 4: Amiens Paris (B)

Following breakfast, head to Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery and see the Australian National Memorial, which is of great significance to the village in which it stands. In 1919, the Australian troops drove out enemy forces who were ten times their number, and the people of Villers-Bretonneux continue to express their gratitude to the Australians today. Stop by the town’s Franco-Australian Museum in the Victoria School to learn more about the role of Australian forces during the war, particularly on the Western Front in 1918.

See more battlefields at Le Hamel and Peronne before returning by coach to Paris. Your 4-day tour of crucial World War I battlefields ends at Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport at approximately 5pm and either the Meridien Etoile Paris (Monday) or Marriott Rive Gauche (Wednesday) at approximately 6pm. These times are approximate and therefore if you are taking a flight immediately after the tour, we advise booking it for after 7pm.

The tour itself was wonderful. Our guide was professional and knowledgeable, the trip was well organized, and we stayed in fine hotels each night. Had plenty of time to visit each site, never felt rushed. Got to see a wide variety of places and memorials. Loved every bit of it. Only complaint: booked through Viator, but tour actually run by Insight. Viator gave us the wrong departure place, which we discovered by accident and would have been a disaster. We left from Hotel Meridian Etoile, not where Viator listed. We also didn’t get the same trip info and introductory materials as those who booked directly with Insight. Viator could also stand to improve its method of email communication.
    Loved the tour.

Excellent trip covering a large number of the important and some minor WW1 Battlefields.
The Menin Gate Last Post visit was very moving.
The local expert guides were excellent with their intimate knowledge of the particular battlefields and the associated memorials. The coach was comfortable and the drivers expertise around the tiny village streets was quite amazing. Hotels were clean and comfortable.
We would recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in the WW1 battlefields.
One point- check initial start time of tour, we were advised 8.00am be there at 7.30. tour did not pick up until 9.00am.

This 4 day tour was remarkable! We visited most of the major WW1 sites in Northern France and Belgium. The two hotels were very modern and comfortable and the breakfasts were fantastic. Our coach was configured with fewer seats than normal so there was lots of legroom. Our guide Caroline was professional, knowledgeable and very friendly. Our driver Suli was highly skilled. My impression is that all 22 participants fully enjoyed the trip and I would highly recommend it.

Great tour, very interesting. The tour is run by Insight Vacations and not by EvanEvans Tours as stated by Viator. Apparently the paperwork will eventually arrive in Australia about the same time as we arrive home mid October. If you book this tour direct with Insight you get the option of staying in the hotel where the tour begins. And you get all the correct paperwork making it much easier to find your tour. Not good enough Viator very misleading advertising.

  • Joanne G (2014-10-14)4

The battlefields tour was wonderful and I enjoyed very minute of it. The only problem I had with the tour was that no one at Viator told me that it would be the local tour operator picking me up at the hotel, and I started to panic when I did not see a Viator bus show up. It got figured out out when the tour director paged me in the lobby, but I think it would be a good idea to let your clients know which tour bus is picking them up. Other than thst glitch, it was a fabulous tour.

This was a fantastic tour. We saw a lot of beautiful countryside, learned a lot about WW1 and made new friends. We took our teenage boys on this tour and they really enjoyed this tour as well -- even though they were by far the youngest on the tour.
