Begin your The Lord of the Rings location tour exploring the city locations of Mount Victoria and the 'Greenbelt', then take a 40-minute walk through the Outer Shire. This location includes the famous 'Get off the road' scene from The Lord of the Rings movie, the 'shortcut to mushrooms' as well as the Black Rider scenes and many more. Your tour leaders are knowledgeable fans of The Lord of the Rings who know their subject inside out.
Next, spend some time at the Weta Studios for an inside look at the Wellington film industry and the studios where The Lord of the Rings movies were produced.
Your visit to Weta includes the new 'Window into Workshop' exhibition, which takes you on a guided tour of the inner workings of the Weta Studios and film production company operated by The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.
Watch a short film showcasing the digital side of Weta and have an opportunity to peruse the Weta cave museum and gift shop.
After the morning’s excitement, it's time for a Lord of the Rings-themed, Orc-sized lunch at Scorch-O-Rama cafe.
Having seen how The Lord of the Rings movies were produced, visit the sites where the movies were filmed and see why Peter Jackson chose to film in this amazing part of the world. Spend the afternoon exploring The Lord of the Rings film locations in the Hutt Valley, with stops including the Hutt River (Great River Anduin) and Harcourt Park (Gardens of Isengard and where the Orcs filled the trees).
Finally, visit Kaitoke Regional Park which was the setting for Rivendell. Situated in a thousand-year-old New Zealand native rainforest, you will see why the Elves chose to live here! Great tour. Loved the Weta studios and seeing all the locations. Tour guide was engaging and knowledgeable. I'd recommend for any Lord of the Rings fan!

we were picked up on time and taken to the first destination and shown the spots of filming and the stories that went with what happened. Weta Workshop was informative but we wanted more of it to focus on LOTR and how that was created and the characters were brought to life. The weather fined up for a picnic lunch and I really enjoyed Rivendell. James was friendly and tried to cater for all as it was a full bus.

Definitely a tour to take especially if you are Lord of the Rings fan. Very nice and knowledgeable guide. the tour will take you through Wellington sight seeing and then well head to some of the locations where the movie was shot. Even though most all of the movie decors have been removed the places are worth seeing just as beautiful NZ nature. The tour of the Weta Caves the P Jackson studios is also very nice. Enjoy

I really enjoyed the tour and I found the tour guide really knowledgeable! We were of a small group of 7x plus tour guide, and everyone got well. :-
All the different locations we visited was just amazing. Enjoyed lunch at Scorch-O-Rama and afternoon tea at Rivendell which was a our last location to visit. :-

We got to see many filming locations and heard many stories of on set! It was a great experience and included a tour of WETA and entrance to the WETA Caves!

We loved the tour, it was one of the highlights of Wellington and indeed New Zealand. Weta studio was amazing, we learnt the tricks of the trade, seen props from Lord of the Rings and other films such as, Bladerunner 2049, Planet of the Apes and this highlighted how much Weta was on the international stage. Dave our guide was a mineful of information on Lord of the Rings and Wellington, was full of fun and very entertaining. We had a few laughs en route!
Our picnic lunch was very unexpected which we had at Rivendell. The food was so tasty. especially the traybakes and it was lovely to be able to have our lunch outside on location being very fortunate with the weather. Rivendell was excellent - surreal being in the actual location and Dave had cloaks and swords for authentic photo opportunities and other surprises on the way!
Would highly recommend this tour. -
