We collect you from your Te Anau accommodation, then travel along the spectacular alpine Milford Road. Your local, experienced nature guides/drivers, are eager to share their stories, knowledge and passion for the area, bringing the mysteries of Fiordland to life - all while making sure you have a fun and safe day.
On reaching Milford Sound you will join a Nature Cruise 2 hours in duration. The cruise provides excellent indoor and outdoor viewing opportunities, with plenty of time to enjoy the waterfalls, rainforest, mountains and wildlife sightings (seals, penguins and dolphins) around the fiord.
A picnic lunch is included in the cost (if you have any dietary requirements please let us know prior to day of travel so these can be catered for).
A walk in Fiordland is a must, even if it is only short so discover more with our overland tour.
Short Walks and Photo Stops - Year round you can enjoy a series of short, guided walks, with your local guide. Our National Park concession allows us to access the Gertrude Valley, Lake Gunn, and Hollyford Valley, so you can get off the beaten track and explore a range of different environments in this World Heritage Area. Plentiful opportunities are made for you to experience the natural fauna and flora with all your senses and of course to get lots of great photos. Catering for all ages and abilities, stops are made to suit people's interests and weather on the day.
Routeburn Track Key Summit Option - In summer (October to April) for the more active this is walking, hiking or in New Zealand we say 'tramping' at it's best. Ascend up the Routeburn Track enroute to Key Summit through lush beech rainforest and into the alpine environment with panoramic views of the surrounding Fiordland Mountains, alpine lakes and deep bush clad valleys. Our full-day trip was absolutely FANTASTIC! Our guide - Doug Thorne, was extremely knowledgeable, and since he grew up in this area and calls this gorgeous landscape his 'backyard', he was even able to throw in so many delightful personal stories and anecdotes while sharing some commentary. Doug took enough breaks to let us have opportunities to take photos, and was very good humored. Lunch was provided and according to our preferences vegetarian vs. non, and then the boat ride... the boat ride was magical and at some point I stopped taking pictures with my camera, and instead just tried to take it ALL IN. BEAUTIFUL.
We also stopped to do a semi-difficult hike up to Key Summit, which was one of my favorite walks/hikes we did while in the Te Anau area. My mom whose knee was somewhat hurting on our way back took a bit longer, so my brother and I and her were lagging about 20 minutes behind the rest of the gang - and so Doug and one of our other fellow-tourists came looking for us...
This experience was perfect and I highly highly recommend it for families and anyone else. If when I go back, I'll be sure to do this all over again! : -
The number of people on the trip is smaller than many of the larger tour operators so the experience was more customized for the group and allowed for more questions. The guide was very knowledgable and we would not hesitate to book again with the tour operator.

We took this amazing tour to Milford Sound. Our tour guide, Doug, was very knowledgeable and funny. I am so glad we did Milford with Trips and Tramps. We were a small group so it felt personalized and we got there before most of the other tours arrived and beat the crowds. The day was perfect.

Full day Milford Sound Hiking Tour started around 730am and retuning around 530pm to and from Te Anau.
Excellent day out even though it rained , so did not do Key Summit Track so alternative plans kicked in walking some other short tracks and visiting other interesting sites. Also stopped to see the cheeky Kea birds.
The boat trip was fantastic -on board the very large Real Journeys over night boat which was not crowded so provided excellent views of the multiple water falls together with excellent on board commentary plus free tea-coffee aboard.Would recommend this tour to all who are interested in a more personal intimate small group tour best for those staying in Te Anau so you get to Milford Sound and cruise early so beating the big crowds and multiple bus loads from Queenstown which arrive as you leave your cruise.

This tour was excellent. The tour size is small, the tour guide incredibly knowledgeable about the area, wildlife, and history, and the tour of the Sound is just spectacular. All in all an excellent way to spend the day.
One note about the hikes/walks. The hike up to Key Summit is an amazing hike, but it is seriously uphill the entire way. You'll be on the clock as well since obviously the tour is on a schedule. I'm in reasonable shape for 56, and it was a struggle for me to get up there, enjoy the view, and get back down in time. So do take all this into consideration before signing up for that hike. It's definitely worth the climb if you're up to it!

The perfect day from start to finish. Steve , who owns the business, gave us the best day. The drive out was great starting with fog in town to sunshine as we got to the Sound. The cruise on Sinbad was just fantastic. An absolute must do. One of the best trips ever.
Then we did the Heli tour up to the glacier, 8000 feet up so quickly it was so exhilarating and then the walk on the glacier.Every bit of the day was perfect. Thanks Steve.
