Your journey through time unfolds when your coach travels to a pre-European village set deep within the forest, 15 minutes from Rotorua. Let this 3.5-hour tour and your imagination take over as your guide instructs you on the protocol for visiting the marae. A chief is selected, a song is learnt and the eerie cry of the welcome is heard before you enter the world of the proud warriors of the ancient Maori.
You will experience the powhiri (welcome ceremony) before you enter the village, with crackling open fires in front of traditional whare (houses). You'll hear traditional Maori instruments and watch the daily activities of days gone by. In the wharenui (meeting house), a Rangiatea culture group offers a powerful display of haka song and dance. Then, as new friendships are forged, dine on a traditional hangi feast, where the food is cooked slowly beneath the ground in earth ovens.
This is an amazing re-enactment based on actual events from history, with real characters, traditional arts and crafts, powerful song and dance while enjoying an authentic Hangi feast.行程概要出發地點

A fantastic inmersive experience that allows you to learn a lot about the Maori people and culture. The food was really good and the show was very entertaining.

A really fun and informative event. Our driver to and from the dinner was extremely amusing and gave us some insight to the Maori culture. Once at the Maori site, we learnt a lot more about the customs and history of the Maori people. The dinner was very good and I would recommend this tour.

Very enjoyable evening to Tamaki Maori Village. Hotel pick up to take us to the coach worked well and the coach driver was entertaining. The village layout and educational talks were good, as were the ceremony and show. The hangi was simple but tasty. We preferred this evening to a similar one at Mitai Maori Village.

This is a very cultural display of the Maori people and their village. After a welcoming from the chief and other warriors we were shown around the village. At each stop one of the Maori people would explain and demonstrate a cultural aspect of their upbringing. E.g dancing,tattoos,games and traditional attire. This was followed by a lovely performance and a delicious hangi dinner. A must when visiting NZ.

The Maori performance and dinner although a buffet resembling a school dinner were very good, the coach journey also resembled a school trip. Singing songs and going around roundabouts upteem times might have more fun if the air con had worked.....

This event is so well organised and good value for money, We were shown in a humorous way the life style of past and present Maoris and learnt their hopes for the future. the meal was tasty and plentiful. Highly recommend.

This was a really exciting adventure right from the very start when we were collected at our hotel and transported to the forest village by air conditioned coach and a driver who gave a good briefing about the place in a hilarious way. Organisation of the four tribes which arrived in buses was done very efficiently. Meaningful outline of Maori history and culture, and delicious, voluminous and relaxing hangi. Highly recommended. When booking I thought it was a bit on the expensive side, but it was worth it all. A must for anyone coming to Rotorua.
