Auckland’s inner city is home to a vibrant gallery precinct, filled with a dynamic mix of galleries, artist studios and public artworks. This exclusive art walking tour is a great way to gain access to this exciting hub for New Zealand and international art.
The tour begins in impressive Aotea Square, sight of many important cultural attractions such as the Auckland Town Hall and the magnificent Waharoa Arch. After an introduction here, we begin making our way down bustling Queen Street to High Street, home to dozens of contemporary art galleries.
Your local artist guide will then take you into three exhibition galleries specialising in high-end New Zealand contemporary art. At each gallery you will hear about the latest exhibitions, the artists featured and see the impressive works on show.
Passing by a selection of large scale outdoor sculptures which we will discuss in depth, we will make our way to Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand’s largest art institution. Here we will visit a selection of this gallery’s impressive collection focusing on historic Maori Portraiture and major New Zealand artists.
Stepping outdoors again we will stroll through picturesque Albert Park, home to of outdoor sculptures set in curated gardens. We will then make our way to an artist run gallery and studio to see fresh and exciting art produced by local fine art students.
After visiting one further contemporary gallery on the Albert Park hill, we will make our way along quaint High Street and Vulcan Lane to a trendy inner city restaurant. Here you will enjoy a full one course lunch and drink of your choice. Your guide will present to you a selection of limited edition fine art prints, you may choose one to keep as a unique and quality souvenir of your time in Auckland’s gallery precinct.行程概要出發地點
