Twice daily the Villa Maria Wine Tour & Airport Shuttle pickups up from the Ferry building downtown ( morning tour only ) and also Sky City Hotel and Casino for the morning and afternoon winery tour.
Gain an insight into the operations of a commercial wine making facility. See how the wine is made on a private guided tour through the vineyard and winery of Villa Maria Estate. This is the most awarded and largest privately owned wine company in New Zealand.
Their design award winning state of the art winery & vineyard park is nestled within the rim of an ancient volcano situated on the Ihimatao Peninsula close to Auckland International Airport.
You'll learn about New Zealand's most famous wine Maker Sir George Fistonich who started the business in 1961 when he was just 21 years old.
Go behind the scenes and see their giant tank farm and barrel room maturing their best Chardonnays and bigger red wines in 225 litre French barriques .
You'll see two fascinating short videos on the techniques and processes used and finally see their state of the art bottling line which can put out an incredible 12,500 bottles an hour
Finally enjoy a tutored tasting of 7 award winning wines with a Villa Maria Wine professional before the return trip to Auckland.

Weather was bad but tour was great. Although we have done many wine tours this was our first visit to behind the scenes at a winery. Very interesting. Great local knowledge and history from our driver.

Despite the rainy weather, John our tour guide provided an enjoyable, informative, introduction to the wine industry in New Zealand. Our visit included the scenic spots listed in the tour description, a guided tour of the Villa Maria Winery and personalized wine tasting. The tour was an excellent value and educational.

The half-day tour was outstanding! Our tour guide, John, was exceptionally knowlegable about Auckland and wine which made for an enlightening and enjoyable tour of a couple of historic and scenic areas of the city and of the Villa Maria winery, which was an excellent experience, both the tour of the production area and the wine tastings. It was a great way to spend an afternoon in Auckland.

John was awesome, he was so friendly and accommodating. He made our trip to Villa maria winery memorable and fun! John was full of interesting facts and information and even took us on a bonus tour around Auckland to see some other areas we hadn't yet gotten to on our trip! I would highly recommend any tour which has John leading the way!
