Three floors house some of the more than 18 million items in the museum’s collection, including priceless fossils and unusual artifacts. The minerals collection alone holds more than 53,000 specimens from Australia and abroad.
In the Surviving Australia exhibition, marvel at massive animals that once roamed Australia, including giant wombats and echidnas. See live animals such as a baby freshwater crocodile, a python, and lizards; then find out how the most dangerous creatures hunt their prey.
The Indigenous Australians and Garrigarrang Sea Country exhibits provides an in-depth look at the Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders, which are widely considered the world’s oldest living cultures. The exhibit was updated in 2015 with a focus on the history, culture and political struggles of these groups. This popular exhibit combines firsthand narratives with a selection of original artifacts from the museums extensive collection to showcase what it means to be an Indigenous Australian.

Presenting the latest cetacean research from the international scientific community, Whales Tohor□ explores the diversity, biology and adaptation of whales to life in our oceans and celebrates their role in South Pacific Islanders’ rich cultural history.

Nice to see.

I chose a Sunday to go, bad idea. Full of screaming children, Not my idea of a good time. Overall the place is huge! It was amazing to walk through the short time I was there. The variety of different displays was beyond anything I expected.It was just a short walk from my hotel. I would love to go again and choose a day where the children may be in school to truly take the time and stop and read the plaques.

excellent Aboriginis exhibit! That is what we wanted to see. The Australian government finally apologized for its earlier treatment of The Aborigines.
