Your tour begins with pickup from your Melbourne hotel. Enjoy a relaxing coach trip through Melbourne's leafy eastern suburbs as you travel from the city to the Dandenong Ranges on the outskirts of the city.
Admire views of towering mountain ash gum trees, the world's tallest flowering plants, as you wind your way up the mountains to Grant's Reserve in the quaint mountain village of Kallista. Handfeed the local crimson rosellas, sulfur-crested cockatoos and pink-and-gray galahs as you drink in the crisp mountain air and enjoy a traditional Australian billy tea with savory Vegemite spread and chocolate-and-coconut lamington cakes.
Leaving Grant's Reserve, your tour takes you to the town of Belgrave in the foothills of Dandenong Ranges to board the famous Puffing Billy steam train. This historic train trip takes you 100 years back in time to the days of steam travel as you ride the train from Belgrave to the Yarra Ranges village of Gembrook. Cross the wooden trestle bridge on this 30-minute ride through the rainforest, and glimpse faraway views of Port Phillip Bay glistening on the horizon.
Relax after your Puffing Billy train ride and enjoy lunch hamper (at own expense) at Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary.
After a leisurely lunch, enjoy a tour of Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary, one of Australia’s premier wildlife reserves. See all kinds of native animals in a natural bush setting, including wallabies, wombats, kangaroos, owls, emus eagles and, of course, koalas. Don’t miss the popular birds of prey display and see sleepy koalas chewing gum leaves in their eucalypt-tree habitats.

This trip was perfect for the students on their day off from a competition. They got to experience a variety of things unique to Australia. Our guide Liam was great.

This was such an enjoyable tour for my daughter and me. The train was fun sitting with our legs outside the carriage and seeing the whole steam train as it went around corners. The views were pleasant of mountains, countryside and trees. We had morning tea and fed the birds at a stop on the way to Healesville. My advice is to wear long sleeves if you feed the birds as my bare arms were bleeding badly from the cockatoos sliding around on my arms and pushing each other. It was still a fun activity though. Healesville is lovely and we had a very nice volunteer who showed us around and helped us see as much as possible. Our main volunteer and some others we talked to were so helpful and enthusiastic about Australian wildlife and conservation. We also had time for lunch at Healesville. This was a pick up and drop off tour but they did try to encourage people to stay in town for dinner at the end of the tour so they didnt have to drop off at so many places during rush hour.

Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary was one of the top things we did on our entire vacation to Australia. All the volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable, and full of fun stories about the animals. I was amazed at how close we were able to get to the animals. It was a remarkable experience that I will remember forever. The Puffing Billy train ride was fun - more fun for children than me - although it was very crowded which made it difficult to see out the windows. All in all it was a good trip for the money.

This was our most disappointing tour. The steam train quite frankly was down right boring and there are better wildlife sanctuaries.

The train ride itself was really fun and you can dangle your legs out of the railings and enjoy the cold mountain air. The so-called traditional Australian tea before this ride is not really something to shout about. It was a messy affair of cold scones and very normal tea and they parked you at packed crumb-laden tables with strangers wherever there was space. The wildlife sanctuary tour is a good experience too but only if you haven't been to other wildlife parks before this one as it's rather small.

Puffing billy train is pretty cool! And the Healesville Sanctuary is great. Would recommend it to anyone looking out for a relaxed tour.
