Begin your evening tour with pickup from Melbourne CBD, then relax on the hour-long drive to the Moonlit Sanctuary just outside the city.
Purchase light refreshments (own expense) then enter the sanctuary escorted by your knowledgeable guide, who will provide useful information about the animals and birds you see.
Hand-feed friendly kangaroos and wallabies, and watch as your guide feeds the feisty Tasmanian devils. Learn about the facial tumors that are endangering this species, and meet the Tasmanian devils' tree-climbing relatives, the endangered spot-tailed quolls.
Then follow your guide deep into the sanctuary to look for southern bettongs, the miniature kangaroos that are now extinct on mainland Australia. Hand-feed these lovely animals while learning about their island lifestyle, and see the world's smallest gliding mammal, feathertail gliders, as they swoop from branch to branch in the surrounding eucalypt forest.
Hand-feed squirrel gliders with cobs of corn, and see if you can spot elusive potoroo marsupials and tawny frogmouth owls.
You might hear the unusual call of the endangered barking owl, and spot sugar gliders and the unusual bush thicknee ground-dwelling bird before meeting the sanctuary's family of dingoes and koalas on your insightful visit to Moonlit Sanctuary.
You will be returned to your Melbourne CBD hotel.

So happy a friend of my husbands told him this was a must while visiting Melbourne. Very educational and a great way to see the Australia wildlife at night when they are active. Walking the paths with lanterns the Wallabies and Kangaroos come up to you and eat out of your hand. Flying tiny feathertail gliders and squirrel gliders hold your finger as they feed on the nectar in dish you're holding. Watch the Tasmanian Devils feed hear a male Koala call out to the females the Dingos howl the Southern Bettongs feed. Learn how most of the species are endangered and how conservation programs are working together to help give them a chance for survival. Small groups on the Moonlit tour, really a must see...beautiful facility.

An excellent tour. A fantastic way of interacting with the animals. Really neat feeding kangaroos and other animals in the dark. An awesome way of being introduced to Australian animals.

Awesome experience, guide is friendly and knowledgeable and you get to see animals really up close without stressing them out.

As we entered the sanctuary, we were given a lantern and some feed for the kangaroos and wallabies that greeted us. As we walked around, we learned interesting facts about the animals and conservation. We also got to be touch and feed some of the animals. Wonderful experience. Would recommend.

My 4 year old and me really enjoyed this trip, the highlight was hand feeding the squirrel gliders and having a tawny frog mouth swoop over my head we also loved how the tassie devils act like naughty children when the sun goes down, a lovely intimate adventure for any age
